Since my 19yr son and I share our birthdate....we also share a birthday cake...made by me!! But I usually gear it towards him....no biggy tho...I'd rather celebrate his birthday instead of mine!!

If I want a birthday cake I either have to have a gross store cake icon_cry.gif or make my own. I didn't mind this year, there was a "girly" one that I wanted to make and it was a good excuse.

This year my husband wants rice crispie bars instead of cake, he has a thing for them and complains because I don't make them often.

Guess I'm one of very few who actually like store bought cakes. I do like my own better to be honest but I've never had a store bought cake I didn't like. Then again, I am all about sugar! icon_biggrin.gif

My Dh usually gets me a triple chocolate fudge cake from Costco or maybe a cookies and cream cake from the grocery store. However, this year I just may make my own cake for the heck of it because there are so many cake designs from here I want to try. icon_lol.gif

My husband, daughter, grandson AND MY birthday are all in December from 2 weeks before Christmas to 2 days before! I don't do December cakes for the family normally but for a 1 year old grandson, I'll break the rule! We all indulge in a Christmas cake though so don't feel too sorry for anyone.

Happy, happy birthday Kathryn! Love your cake!

Happy birthday katharry!

My husband makes me a homemade Lemon Meringue pie. I'm around cake enough, I don't want it for my birthday. Plus I know myself, I'd silently be critising the taste LOL icon_lol.gif
So, that's what he does.
He does however, write Happy Birthday, Robyn on it. He loves piping bags.."They're fascinating"

I normally get a pie. Sometimes my sisters will make me a cake. They don't know how to decorate it so its not decorated but it normally would have nuts on top if it's a carrot cake with creamcheese frosting or I have a coconut cake so there is coconut on top of the icing. Both are to die for! LOVE them.

I would not mind making my own cake though. I also LOVE store bought white cake with white icing. I know I know it sounds yucky to most of you but I do like it.

To be honest I don't really like the buttercream icing we use to decorate with.

I did my own. Some people at work thought it was funny that I made my own b-day cake... I said so what ?? If I make and give birthday and wedding cakes away for free, why not make myself one.. who is the best person to make it for me but myself .. icon_smile.gif here is it.. pretty simple.

I've made my own cake for the past two years. I like to bake and I like to decorate, so I jump at almost any chance to do it...even if it is my own cake. I don't have a cake business, yet, so I am not quite sick of cake yet.

I can't remember the last time I had a bithday cake. I've only had one birthday since I started decorating. My nieces birthday is 2 days before mine so I'd rather concentrate on her's. Plus it's her bd, halloween and then my birthday....I think there's enough sugar in that equation.

In the past, my mom has always baked me dessert - usually a chocolate roll (not decorated, but oh so yummy). This year, I got 2 cakes - my mom made her traditional chocolate roll, and my fiance made me a chocolate cake and decorated it with my decorating tools in buttercream icing - it just said happy birthday on it, and had random stars/rosettes on it, but it was delicious and absolutely wonderful and beautiful!

My husband usually buys one from the local bakery. However, this year my 7 year daughter made me a choc ripple cake. For those of you who do not know what this is, it is a no bake cake. Take a pack of choc ripple biscuits and a spread whipped cream on one side. Then sandwich the biscuits together till it looks like a log. Cover the whole lot with more cream and decorate with whatever you want. Put the whole thing in the fridge and the cream will soften the biscuits and it whole thing tastes like choc cake.

My son is 6 and my daughter is 8. They both brainstorm together and go in my big closet where I keep my pans, and pick out a shaped cake pan they think I will like. Then they ask for help mixing the batter and taking the cake out of the oven. I also make and color a batch of frosting and put together the frosting bags. They usually have a piece of paper with a design drawn on it and decorate the cake together. It's the most time they spend together not arguing about something. icon_smile.gif We have to warn any guests that may join our party that the kids made it, and it is probably "finger lickin' good" as most foods from kids are. They have done this for several years. They say it's not right that I make them fancy cakes for their birthdays and I don't get one myself. So I always get a decorated cake for my birthday from my little sweeties. birthday.gif

Happy Birthday! Mine was 10/5. I had a least 3 people ask me if I make my own birthday cake. I refuse to make my own cake!!! My DH is perfectly capable of making a basic cake (or buying one at the supermarket) and that is just fine for me icon_smile.gif

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!! icon_biggrin.gif
My bday is two weeks from Christmas. I usually don't want a cake. As a kid my bday cakes ALWAYS had a Santa or some kind of Christmas theme. icon_cry.gif I like dinner out with my husband & three daughters. Maybe an ice cream from Baskin Robbins or my newest favorite icecream place; The marble slab. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

My mother in law usually makes me a cake and appologizes constantly about how bad it looks. I really appreciate the thought and effort she put into it. I bring a lot of cakes in for co-workers on their birthday and this year they all went together and got me a night away at a fancy hotel. It was a nice treat for a busy working mom!

Now that I know how to bake and decorate, I would prefer to bake my own. I don't want anyone buying me a cake from Kroger or Publix. Yuck! Once I crafted the art of baking, the supermarket cakes just don't appeal to me anymore. Now there is one place in this area that I would buy a cake from for my birthday. There cakes are so good! They are a independent bakery. Talk about yummy!
