I only have the wire leveler right now for leveling and torting. I know a lot of people have said not to buy the wilton one (larger saw like one) so what kind do I buy?

I don't have the Agbay, but many people here highly recommend it. It's a bit pricey, maybe around $129 ???? But they say they couldn't live without it. I'm about ready to break down and buy one soon.

Agbay if you can swing it! I finally bit the bullet and I love it! It works great! Makes me wonder how I did it before the Agbay!

I have a cute little gadget that I love. You just stick it in the cake and walk it around until you get back to the beginning and just pull the wire through; nice clean cuts.

You can torte layers really thin and even thumbs_up.gif

I have the very large Wilton saw one. I love it. I don't like the wire ones. But the big saw works great for me. I got it half price, so it was $10 or so, at the tent sale this past summer.

I'm going to look at this Agbay one now on line to see what the big deal is. LOL

The only caution I have with the Wilton one is make sure you store it in a safe place because the blade can bend fairly easily as it's quite thin.

**okay, back after seeing the little Agbay video... that is VERY cool. What a time saver that would be. Someday, I will pick up that one!

I just used my Agbay for the first time this past weekend and I can't tell you how worth it is and how much time it saves. No hassles! Go to www.agbayproducts.com and check out the video. It's as ez as it looks.

Merissa i have the large wilton and i like it alot, it works great. you do need to store it in a safe place because it does bend easily and you have to watch out that the kiddies dont get a hold of it. i definately give it a thumbs up especially with a 40 or 50% off, no complaints here.

The reason I had heard not to purchase the wilton one was that people were saying that it was not torting/leveling straight, like it was going on an angle and they couldnt figure out why. I dont know i havent tried one, but I hate to spend money on something if it doesnt work properly. Maybe I will have to put the agbay on my wish list....

I had (I say had because it died) the large Wilton leveler. It was awful. It never leveled my cakes, they were always crooked. It wasn't sharp enough to go through the outer edge of the cake (which was wierd since they aren't tough). One day it came apart and the thing got bent so I just through it away. I'm not sad to see it go.

I've read on here that some people used the unflavored, unwaxed dental floss. I use the smaller Wilton one for small cakes and a serrated knife for larger ones. One day, I'll have the Agbay!

The Agbay is pricey, but it's very sturdy and well-made. I love mine! I know some decorators are really good at getting even layers with dental floss or a serrated knife, but I was not one of them. icon_sad.gif
This is a great tool.

I used to level my cakes then I read a post on here about just flattening them with a cake board as soon as they come out of the oven.. I use a clean tea towel over a cardboard circle and press on the cake while it is still in the pan and right out of the oven.. I find it makes for a denser cake and very moist and I love the fact that I don't have all these cake scraps to nibble on..LOL
