I've told someone that I might be able to make a cake that is 2 kinds of cake and 2 colors of icing like as described below:

A sheet cake where 1/2 (left side) is chocolate and the other half is yellow. The chocolate side will be iced with chocolate and the yellow is iced in white. Buttercream will be used.

Any ideas how to do this kind of icing job neatly?

ANyone have a link to a pic of a cake using this technique?

TIA -- S.

i've done two cakes with different colors. i first frost with the lightest color on the whole cake, then i do the other color...and usually have a divider in the middle.

That's what I was thinking about doing, but what kind of divider do you use?
Do you have any pics of this work?

there is the elmo cake that i did...it has the divider made w/ fondant.
the other is the kim possible cake. that has no divider just a wave effect.

I would use the quick icer tip (that big flat one that looks like a basketweave tip on steroids) and just ice each side seperately with that and smooth it without disturbing the center too much, and if it does get a little mixed up just cover it with a border.

I've done it by pouring choc in half and tilting pan then pouring the yellow in other side no divider they just divide naturally

I've only done it once, and I think it turned out OK. Here's the link to my cake: http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_405993.html.

I just iced the one side with chocolate buttercream and iced the other side with white buttercream, and tried to make them meet in the middle without too much mixing. I had to put an icing "divider" in the middle to cover up the mixing that couldn't be avoided. I wasn't crazy about how the "divider" looked, but it was the best I could do. Good luck with your cake! icon_smile.gif

OOOOO ok, I would just take a quarter sheet of each flavor and glue it with bc down the middle so it doesn't crack. (or half sheet, whatever size you are needing)

Thanks for the pic! That's kind of what I thought it would be like -- although I thinkt they want black and white icing -- that should be interesting. Not worried about the cake parts because I was planning on just lining them up and glueing them together. But, the icing was bugging me. I like your cake and I think the divider looks fine with it.

Thanks everyone!

I've just practiced with the technique, and I'm really happy with the results! Thanks again, and, oh, you brought up our other hobby-- AI -- I can't wait for it to start! Just heard they held auditions in San Diego, I think.

Hope this season is better than the last!

Anyway, I'll be sure to post -- they may not even decide to go with that look, but if they do, I'll be ready for 'em!

I'm glad that your practice cake went well! icon_smile.gif

I also heard that the auditions started. Can't believe we have to wait until January to see it on TV again!!! icon_cry.gif

Yeah, January seems far away from now. But, once that and 24 starts again, life will seem back to normal.
