I literally was laughing when I was completing this cake! We've always called our son a monkey. So, I just had to do a monkey cake for his 4th birthday. Seriously, my kids have no idea what it is like to have a "flat" birthday cake. Sometimes I wonder what in the heck I was thinking when I began all this crazy decorating stuff. But, I just LOVE it!
My son woke up shortly after I finished the cake to use the potty (around 4 a.m.). I showed him his cake and he had the most beautiful sleepy grin on his face. It was priceless. Then when I told him he needed to go back to bed, he said "can I sleep with my cake?" You can't beat when your greatest passions in life come together. My kids cakes are by far my favorite cakes to make!

Ok the cake is to die for cute, and I love the story about the 4am wake up sleepy smile. Reminds me of the first time my son saw a Christmas tree. Hubbs and I stayed up unitl 2am decorating...then being the new parents that we were we woke him up to see it. I have a pic of him looking at it with sleepy eyes and to this day it makes me smile and cry all at the same time. Good job Mom!

how adorable! it's always so much fun to hear the cute stories behind the cakes! i have to say that my kids cakes are some of my favs too just because of how their little faces light up when they see them! great job on this one thumbs_up.gif

I miss the looks on the older kids faces icon_sad.gif they keep telling me they are tired of being used as taste test dummies icon_rolleyes.gif One even had to suggest that I should pay them for being a focus group icon_eek.gificon_surprised.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Thank god for 2 year old DS, I was finishing decorating a cake for DBF work collegue when DS walks in, takes one look at the cake and starts singing "happy birthday cake, happy birthday cake". icon_biggrin.gif

Got to love my kids!!

Awww I have a little guy who just turned 5 and we call him our monkey too. Your cake is adorable. I agree, the most fun I have is making cakes for my kiddos. My daughter's 10th birthday is coming up in August and I need to decide what I'm going to surprise her with. She loves High School Musical and horses so I need to decide which of those I'm going to do.
