Hi,

I have researched the web and this site for picture/3-D cake bakers in my area but there doesn't seem to be any common ratings or recommendation system/web site.

If there is, can you point me to it? If there isn't, I'm looking for bakers/decorators in Northern Virginia - Fairfax, Arlington, etc. Maybe DC or Montgomery County. Can anyone recommend any or tell me what I need to look for/ask when I call them up? Are they any good, or is there someone who does this at home? Also what to expect it to cost?

I'm looking to have a surprise cake for January 1 (otherwise I'd have a go at it) that is either a 3-d or picture cake of a World of Warcraft character (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com).

Sorry if this is inappropriate or in the wrong forum. Thanks a lot.

Welcome, dhouser! If you go to the top of the page and clink "links" they are listed by state. Good luck!

I would love to help you, my husband is big into this stuff and it would be a fun cake to make, but I live in Delaware, OH.

Sorry I can't help.

Thanks Barb, wish I was closer. icon_smile.gif

I did look at the link section but don't know if they are recommended by the site owners/users or if they are paid advertising links. Thanks.

I don't know about a recommendation system, but just about anyone on CakeCentral I would recommend. If you start a post that you are looking for a decorator in "insert your location" there are decorators from all over the world on this forum. I am sure someone is around the area. Then you can take a look at their photos they have posted online here and see if it is someone you would like to make the cake.

As for pricing I would personally start a 3D cake like that around $5/serving, However since it is a licensed character I probably wouldn't do it (but don't be discouraged there are still decorators who would) You didn't say how many people you were looking for it to feed this is why I gave you a per serving price.

You can also go to the memberlist and search by location. You may find someone this way also.

HTH, and welcome to the boards!

Sorry, this would be for a cake to feed two adults and a child for a few days - as dessert. icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks for all the tips!

Hmm for a cake that small you are probably still looking at spending a minimum of $50 for a 3D cake, maybe even more. I think your best bet would be to get a picture put onto a cake or buy one of the figurines off of the site and have a cake decorated to match the theme.

Wish I was closer I think this would be a fun one to try to do.
