I bought 2 used 20 quart Berkel mixers on E-Bay for $700. It didn't come with any attachments or bowls, but they offered the option of adding a bowl, paddle, and whip for an additional $100. I am very happy with my purchase. I drove to Virginia to pick them up which was a lot cheaper than getting them shipped but it was all worth it. I got an extremely good deal! I would have paid that for one of them. Berkel is actually owned by Hobart so you know you are getting a good product as long as it was kept well and isn't too old. Mine were 2 years old when I purchased them. I believe new they go for between 1500 and 2000.

When I had my shop I had a 30 qt Hobart. I didn't purchace it new it came w/the shop. It was BIG! A 20 qt would be much easier to handle. As for pricing - do a search on the 'net. There are other brands besides Hobart but right now I can't think of them.

Would love to own one, but haven't had the chance to get a good deal. There is a place near me that sells stuff that was taken from closed resturants and resells. They had a 20qt really bad shape with just bowl and paddle for 1800. No way.

I think that thread references traditional "kitchen counter" mixers, similar to Kitchenaid mixers....not commercial 20 qt ones. I'm watching this thread also for more info! I'm also going to check out Ebay as Chefrinny got a fab deal!

I have a 20 qt Hobart that I bought used from a local restaurant supply house that sells used equipment. I don't know how I survived without it. I actually bought it on a whim, so I did not get a deal. Paid $1500, and it was in very good shape.

Silly me I thought we would just throw it in the back of hubby's truck and bring it home and set it on the counter. yeah . . . not so much.

We couldn't lift it. The counter wouldn't support it.

So . . . I had to buy a stainless steel mixer stand and have the two burly guys from the supply store bring it to me.

Than we had our carpenter build a mixer closet for it.

Looks really nice, though.
