Well, I am in Louisville-probably a mid point for most of ya and I would be deeply honored if we had a meeting at my house-it's large enough for us and we could get out the books, play with tips etc and chitchat if you would like! I am pretty much off on weekends-I have a 6 year old granddaughter my husband and I are raising but she loves cakes too and I could have her busy doing other things for grownup girl talk! Let's do it!!

Brenda~ I have been to the cake store in E-town it seems like it is called something with Party in it. My friend has relatives there and she told me about it. We still drive down to BG every year to have our taxes done, even though we moved up here several years ago. We miss that area of the state, but I guess Frankfort is home.
Nanni~you'll have to tell us what pans you have for sale. Even thought it seems most of my friends want sheet cakes or something really different, I am addicted to character pans. I go to yard sales every Saturday hoping to get lucky!! Last summer I had 2 good weekends where I found 15-20 pans each time. This summer has been pretty unlucky. I have a huge list of the pans I want. I am always looking on e-bay.
As far as getting together, I am free around the end of September or the first of October.

That sounds fun. Maybe we can do that sometime. Thanks for offering!

Do you remember where in Etown that shop was? I'd love to check it out!
Okay, I have a question for the KY bakers. For those of you who do wedding cakes....what is your base price for a very simple wedding cake? I just started a new job yesterday in a very small office, and one of my coworkers mentioned that she had to decide on someone this week to make her wedding cake. She just wants a very simple square or rectangular cake (3 tiers, I think) that she's going to have someone put fresh flowers on. I know wedding cakes are charged by the slice, but I've never done one before and I wouldn't mind making this one cheaper than I normally would just to get the experience. I just want to get a basic idea for what people usually pay in Kentucky. So even if you don't sell wedding cakes, if you have any idea what anyone else around here charges, please let me know. Thanks everybody!
Hello everyone!! I'm from Nicholasville, a suburb of Lexington you could say. I have a great husband of 5 years who works very hard, which allows me to stay at home with my two boys{4 and 2}. He even helps out with cakes every once in a blue moon. I started out with cakes as a hobby but have since decided to make a go as a business, renting a kitchen. I am self taught, although I would love to take a gumpaste flower class if Michael's every decides they want to offer one. And as to the price per serving on hte wedding cakes mine starts at $2.00 per serving and goes up depending on filling{.25} and fondant{.50}.
Hey nanni ~ I was thinking that if we did meet together, Louisville would be a great midpoint place
. Thanks for the offer! Louisville is 4 hours from my house so I'm assuming it would be 4 hours from Eastern, KY too, although I can get to London in 6 hours.
Sounds great to me
!
I'm a Kentuckian too!
I live in Calvert City about 10 miles East of Paducah and 10 miles West of Kentucky Lake. The closest person to me so far is Denise (Howdy Neighbor
I wish Ky. would let us decorate from home w/o the big to do list
I have family in London and Hazard. We go there occasionally for family reunions not far past Thousand Sticks. I love the mountains!!!!!!
Oh Cool Steady2hands!! I grew up in Eddyville and come through Calvert City quite a bit!! Wow!! Didn't realize that there was someone that close to me.

Hey Brendasmum, keep checking back with Michael's on those gumpaste classes because I start that class at Michael's on Saturday. Our teacher said it was a little early, but Wilton has 'approved' the gumpaste class and it should be available after the first of the year.
Thanks for the heads up on the gumpaste class. I check with Michael's every so often and so far they haven't listed a class yet. I'll keep looking though.
Hey all, sorry I'm chiming in a little late. I just saw this post today. Anyway, I'm from Lexington, but grew up in Mt. Sterling (Montgomery Co.) just a half hour east of here. I have family in Williamsburg (Pleasant View, actually), so I travel there once a year for a family reunion, and DH's grandparents used to live in Bowling Green so we used to travel there a few times a year, but since his grandfather died, his grandmother moved to Lexington to be closer to the rest of us. DH's mom and dad grew up in Hindman, so I've been there a couple of times. We just went took the kids to Newport Aquarium last Friday and had a great time! Isn't KY a wonderful state???
So about me, I've been married just over 10 years to a wonderful, supportive guy who is so excited about someday helping me open a little bakery! I swear, I think sometimes he's more excited than I am! We have three beautiful boys together, 8, 4 1/2 and 20 months, and DH has an 18 year old son from his first marriage.
It's great seeing so many Kentuckians on this board! I'm all for getting together at nanni's if everyone else can make it!
I'm at Fort Campbell. I'm in Ketucky. but pretty close to being in Tenn. I live on the side of the post that is in Kentucky though.
We are not to far apart. I live in Clinton Co. It's on the Tenn. boarder as well. I spend a lot of time in Tenn. because my boyfriend lives just 1 mile across the state line. I would love to get together with you all. I couldn't do it until after the first week in October though. I have my first wedding cake then.
Hey Ky decoractors! I live in Paducah Ky. Better known as the "Quilt City". I've been married for 6 years with a 4 year old son. I've had one Wilton class. I've sold about 4 cakes. I geeting ready to do my first wedding cake in Oct. I need to get my pictures on here. I'll keep checking to see if somebody is close to me. This is a wonderful idea Thanks
Hey Misty ~ Calvert City is about 10 minutes from Southside Paducah. Glad to know I'm not alone on the Western end of the state. Have you checked out the Chocolate Factory downtown?
Great Nannie.
That would be awesome.
Now we need to plan when.
We could all even bring something to eat, like a potluck or something.
Just so it will not all be placed on you to do.
I know some live a distance, but I am sure there is still something you could bring. ![]()
We'll have to start planning this thing. Sounds like it could be a real good hen party. ![]()
, I don't guess there is any roosters in this bunch is there ? ![]()
If you are, thats fine with me, the more the merrier. ![]()
I'm not a rooster
BUT I LOVE hen parties!!!! ![]()

Steady2Hands,
You mentioned Thousand Sticks. Isn't that is Leslie County? If you know of Thousand Sticks then you have probably heard of Hell For Certain. It is in Leslie Co. too. I'm not from Leslie Co but I am from Clay County and I have traveled to Leslie Co many times since they are so close.

Hello Everybody! I'm from Shepherdsville, KY. It's about 20 miles South of Louisville. I'm living in Arkansas right now, but we own a house in KY. We hope to be back home by the first of the year. I started taking classes here just to have something to do and I love it!!!! I look forward to getting back home and making lots of cakes for family and friends. It's nice to see so many people on here from KY. I kinda feel like I'm back home again.
Ok everyone....I started to post last night but got called away to do some actual work...got a new patient. So....anyway...I move away from Louisville 2 years ago. We lived there for 10 years but decided we needed to be closer to family. My mom will be 82 in Jan and it seemed like all the work fell on two of my sisters so we moved to Richmond IN which is east of Indianapolis.
I don't know if any of you know about KY ICES chapter but Darlene Nold at Conways Confections in Middletown is or was the chapter representative. You can email her at [email protected] to get more info on ICES. I know they meet at least 4 times a year and try to have it in different area's of the state depending on where the members live. They have some really neat demo's and they are called "days of sharing". I have met so many nice people through ICES that it well worth the money to join.
Lida Snow was the past Pres of ICES International and she is from KY. She writes articles for ACD and ICES magazine too. I encourage you all to check ICES out.
I finally found the Indiana chapter earlier this year and love it!
Nanni,
Where in Louisville do you live? I use to live in Cresent Hill area right on Hillcrest Ave. I think I am going to miss ST James Art fair this year because I have to work..... ![]()

Wax, Spring Lick, and Do Stop are not too far from here. I know there are other funny KY town names, but I can't think of any right now.
