I thought it would be neat to see where everyone lives here in Ky.

I live in a small town, called Loretto, Ky.

It is about 60 miles from Louisville and Lexington, 25 from Elizabethtown, and about 12 from Bardstown.

I am a stay at home mom of 3, husband is a truck driver, so I pretty much do it all with the kids, home, yard and animals. icon_mad.gif

But I love being at home with my kids, and I love the small amount of free time that I get to try my hand at cake decorating.

Everyone on this site is so very good, even beginners. I hope to one day, be good enough to sell atleast a few cakes, but until the mean time, its practice, practice.

So that is where I am from what about the rest of you.

And if anyone from another state reads this, I wasn't trying to be mean and leave you out. I was just wondering how many on here are from my home state. Sorry, maybe next time. thumbs_up.gif

I'm in a small town called Leitchfield. It's 30 minutes from Elizabethtown, about 1 hr from Owensboro, a little under an hour from Bowling Green, and about an hr and 15 minutes from Louisville......so not really close to anywhere but not REALLY far from anywhere, either!

I'm divorced with one son and I have a boyfriend who is stationed at Ft. Campbell but is currently deployed to Iraq. usaribbon.gif I'm staying busy making cakes to keep myself occupied, and he's always excited to see the pictures of my cakes when I email them to him.

I'm looking forward to reading all the replies from the Kentucky bakers on here, too! Take care!

Hi! I am in Frankfort. I work full time at Commonwealth Credit Union and I do cakes for fun! It is nice to have a hobby like cake decorating. I need to be creative sometimes.

I have a wonderful husband that puts up with my late nights and baking on weekends. I have 2 cats that are not understanding. They live in the basement and don't come upstairs where the kitchen is, so they miss me when I bake and decorate.

It is nice to see other people from KY. I am glad that we have CC to get ideas and learn from. In my area, cakes are not real exciting. You go to the local bakery (which is delicious) and get a cake with just flowers or Kroger and Wal-Mart. There are 250+ employees at the credit union and they keep me busy!!! One girl is having a family reunion this weekend and she will be getting 7 12x18 cakes!! I am cutting letters out to spell her family name. I will post them when done.

I have finally found someone to drive to Lexington with me to take the Wilton classes. They start next week! I can't wait. Let's stay in touch!! birthday.gif

I just looked at your cakes. They are all great. You both have done a wonderful job!!

Are you able to send baked goods to your boyfriend or does it take too long to ship? Wouldn't it be cool if we could get tons of people to send cookies and other goodies to the troops that we make at home, or is that allowed? Several years ago, my office sent care packages to the troops in lieu of exchanging Christmas gifts and we had a strict list. But cookies was just a thought!!

Thanks Brightbrats, I'll tell him!

Debrab, I have family in Frankfort. I haven't been there much, but I do have a small connection to there. Oh, and the cake market around here is pretty dull, but I've had alot of interest mainly from coworkers since they found out I do cakes. Basically there are a few home bakers, I think, and otherwise it's a generic WalMart cake or an even nastier frozen cake from the local grocery store. Seriously, one night at work they had forgotten someone's birthday and ran out to the local grocery to pick up a cake....I could barely swallow it! It was terrible! I tried to not let on like it was so bad, but I could tell people were watching me to see what I thought of it. It was really funny!

He has only been over there about a month, and I've only had an address for him a little over a week, so the first package I sent hasn't gotten to him yet. I sent brownies because I've sent those to a friend over there before and they got there okay. I just made a 9x13 pan of brownies and cut the big slab of brownies in half, wrapped the halves in foil, then put them each in a gallon size Ziplock bag. I kept them in big pieces so hopefully that will help keep them from drying out. He's supposed to let me know if they're still decent when they get there, then I'll know if I should bother sending more homemade stuff or not. I think it usually takes 10-14 days for a package to get there if you send it Priority Mail, so hopefully they won't be too stale by then.

You will have to let us know if they make it safely. Maybe we can all send something for the troops. I wonder if they get as many care packages as they used too? We haven't done anything at work in atleast 2 years. What a better way to say "thank you" and "we care"~by sending treats!!

I don't live in Ky anymore but I have to chime in and say I loved it there. We were stationed at Ft. Knox for just under 4 years (a record at the time for everyone but my dad) and my mother wanted to retire there but my dad didn't want to.

I used to have very close friends at Ft. Knox and I spent lots of time there. They got transferred to Ft. Polk and have since retired, and I haven't been back to Ft. Knox since.

We'd be glad to have you back in Kentucky if you ever want to visit! icon_biggrin.gif

I am about 30 minutes north of Lexington in Corinth, KY. It's one of those blink and miss it towns. I've only been in Corinth for about a year, since getting married, so I haven't been doing too many cakes since I moved. My family and friends were my biggest customers.

I have to say that this has become my new favorite website. I don't get a lot of work done anymore cause I spend entirely too much time on here icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi all, I live in a small town called Albany KY. Its on the Tennessee line and not close to any major city or town, maybe 2 hours East of Bowling Green. I love to bake and decorate cakes, there aren't a whole lot of stores around here to get supplies so if any of you know any places around Bowling Green please let me know. Its great to hear from all of you.

Hi guys!! It's great to meet everyone from KY!! I'm in Princeton, it's about 40 minutes away from Ft. Campbell and about a hour or so away from Paducah. Since I'm in a small town, I haven't been able to attend any of the Wilton classes. icon_cry.gif So I'm basically self taught and stink at it! icon_lol.gif But I'm having a blast trying!!!

I've been married 17 years and have 4 kids, 3 boys and a girl (ages 15, 13, 10 and 19 months) I attended college to become a Surgical Tech, but since baby girl came along...I haven't had a chance to get back. Hopefully next year I'll be able to go back.

Nice to meet everyone! ~Denise

Hey, I am so glad that I started this.

It is great to see where everyone is. There are even a few of you that are kind of close to where I live.

It would be awesome if we could ever find the time and money icon_lol.gif to get together, but we are scattered so far apart, I imagine it would be hard, but neat.

I would be embarressed icon_redface.gif to meet you all , your decorating skill is so much better than mine. icon_cry.gif

I have wanted to take classes, but you all know how it is with kids, distance, money, time, did I say money. icon_lol.gif

It would be nice to get good enough to sell some cakes and make a little money at the same time.

That is my dream for the future. thumbs_up.gif

Keep it up everyone, I know there are some more Kentuckians out there.

The only places I know of in Bowling Green are Hobby Lobby, Party One Superstore, and they have a new Sams Club now. I've gotten icing from Sams, and I'm getting ready to order some cake boxes and stuff like that from their bakery.

Cakesbykaye,
I have shopped at that store many, many times. Hey, maybe we could ask the owner if she might be able to schedule some classes at her store. I know you and I aren't the only ones who shop there. I live in Barbourville, KY which is close to Corbin, Pineville, London, Ky. I would love to attend a Wilton class but it's just too far to travel all the way to Lexington for one. Maybe a person could schedule some shopping that day too and then it wouldn't seem like so far to drive. I desperately need help from anyone I can get it from. But I don't make cakes to sell, just for family and friends. As long as they like them then i'm okay.

Hi! I just got home from work and couldn't wait to log on and see if more folks from KY had responded. All I have to say is for people that have not taken classes, you have a lot of talent! I saw some great cakes!! I especially liked the UK one. My friend at work would love it. I will have to remember it on her Birthday.

My husband is from Berea so we go there quite a bit and I went to EKU many moons ago! I have seen that cake store in London, but we have never stopped. I point it out and my husband keeps driving!!

It would be cool if we could get together and share ideas, but we are pretty spread out.

Brooke, when I lived in Bowling Green, Albany was on my Marketing route. I love the little diner in Jonesville. They have the best cheeseburgers!!! Yummmmm!! thumbs_up.gif

I'm a Kentuckian too! thumbs_up.gif

I live in Calvert City about 10 miles East of Paducah and 10 miles West of Kentucky Lake. The closest person to me so far is Denise (Howdy Neighbor icon_biggrin.gif ). It takes me 40 minutes to drive to Princeton. DH and I just went there about a month ago to the Adsmore House. It was the Wedding Season. Boy did I ever check out that cake.

I wish Ky. would let us decorate from home w/o the big to do list icon_sad.gif . A separate kitchen with separate doors and all that stuff is just not possible for me since this is more of a hobby for me. I would love to hand out business cards. Oh well, I'll keep on with my family, friends, and friends of friends. They keep me pretty busy icon_biggrin.gif .

I have family in London and Hazard. We go there occasionally for family reunions not far past Thousand Sticks. I love the mountains!!!!!!

Hi ya! (That's southern for Hello, just in case anyone up north doesn't know icon_rolleyes.gif )

My name is Kristie and I live in Henderson, KY, which is about 45 minutes from Madisonville, 30 minutes from Owensboro, 1 1/2 hours from Eddyville, and 2 1/2 hours from Louisville.

I am happily married for almost 7 years now, and we have 3 dogs that are our 'kids'. We had a little boy 5 years ago, but he was born too prematurely, and didn't make it. That has made me a big supporter of the SHARE group for anyone that has lost children. I refer people all the time to them.

I am the secretary for Hospice, and even though we deal with death and dying everyday, I have to say that it is a GREAT job. I absolutely love it. You have to be able to laugh to deal with all of the emotions of interacting and caring for the patients and their families, so we are always trying to find ways to brighten up each others days. I have showed this site to so many people at work, and they are HOOKED.

Thanks you guys for being informative, for sharing and giving help when needed, and thanks for making us smile. CC is great.

Sorry, didn't mean to be depressing.

And yes, if we were able to get together to have a cake group, I'd be willing to drive anywhere in KY, even though I'm just starting out and my cakes aren't good yet.

fourangelsmommie-- I am so sorry to hear about your child.

Children are the world to me, and I am sure to others. It is great that something good has came out of your tragedy. Now you can help others go through what you went through a little easier, if there is an easier in that kind of experience.

Enough of the depressing stuff, not that I wouldn't want to talk about your child or my 3 brats, but this is our time.

Anyway I think your cakes are awesome, I think I even pm'd you on one, one time.

And I am like you I would think it would be so cool if we could all meet up somewhere, but who knows, it could happen. thumbs_up.gif
