I think if there had been 100 cakes entered, you still would have won first place! That is an awesome cake!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Congrats! You did a beautiful job - you should be proud. Isn't it nice to know that even if the competition was good, you were still the best?!!!
Yeah!
Give us some details on the cake... fondant, buttercream, gum paste, etc...
so happy to hear that!!!! i saw this cake in your earlier post and new it would be a winner, CONGRATS < BRAVO! simply perfection, please tell us the prize was worthy of all that work!
Thanks guys. It was a ball to do it; I get more sure of myself with each new cake, so it's getting really fun. I'm pretty proud of that one.
It was fondant (3 kinds) on dummies. 3 kinds of fondant because it's what I had--I used Wilton for some, and blended homemade fondant, Wilton, and some old Petinice for the big bottom cake. Royal flowers etc.
The prize? Well, unfortunately for my pride, the prize is a little teensy 3" long by 1" wide blue ribbon that says First Place on it. Whoop dee doo. The first year I entered that fair, I thought huh? What is with these little tiny ribbons? Can't we afford regular sized ribbons for the work people put out? Guess not. But, it was fun, and that was that. I'm going to see if a local caterer or florist wants it to display, because I don't need it or have anywhere to keep it.
Looking forward to my next real live cake in two weeks--a Hawaiian theme wedding for 75, fresh flowers from Hawaii, 3 tier, fountain cake that has to be transported about 45 minutes away. I will, of course, keep ya posted...lol Oh, and a baby shower the same week with a frog/dragonfly/turtle theme...
homecook, that is so ...funny or sad...or both ...ROFLMAO!! guess none of the judges have ever put the kind of time needed to make a masterpiece like that or they would break out a few more bucks for some ribbons worthy of displaying at least!
cant wait to see the pics of your cakes from the busy weeks to come!
i checked out your gallery and everything is wonderful!
How impressive. It's a gorgeous cake, and I love the flowers and how smooth the cakes look. Congratulations. I would have voted you for the first price winner.

The cake is just beautiful and I am very happy you won. You really deserve it for the excellent job you did on this cake. It is definitely one of my favorites
Congratulations!!! That's a very beautiful cake, actually all your cakes on your website are very pretty.
Thanks everyone!
I checked the fair handbook, and hey, I DO get something else...There will be a Wilton yearbook for every first place winner, and they also judge a Best of Division for adult and children and THAT winner gets to choose a Wilton product: one of 3 videos (Decorating Basics, How to Make Wedding Cakes, and How to Make Icing Flowers) or the Tiered Cake book (have that)...so who knows, maybe it will get B of D...but I guess I get a yearbook too, which I've never bought, so that should be cool.
Glad you guys mentioned something...now let's see who gets B of D...oooh, the tension....! lol
im going to go out on a limb here and hope i dont jinx you but i just cant imagine anyone else having any thing that will top your cake in the Bof D comp.
if you dont win, well its got to be fixed then! LOL
good luck to you!
when will this be determined and announced?
im nervous for you even though again i repeat , i dont see the need to be, your an artist!
I'm not sure when B of D is decided; it wasn't on there Wed when I went in to the fair, but we're going again tomorrow, and the fair ends Sunday, so you'd think it would be on there by then...if I get it...
Guess we'll wait and see...
Well, well, well !!! CONGRATULATIONS !!!!
I know how you feel....Got myself a Blue Ribbon last week myself..
It's good to be rewarded with all you hard work. Not that the others didn't work hard. But it always feels good to win.. is that a dummy ?
it is beautiful,, my entry also had an Autumn Theme..w/c I called: Autumn Breeze. but mine was judged mainly of taste. And it was not wedding cakes. Your cake is beautiful... here's another ribbon for you !!
CONGRATS, what an excellent looking cake with beautiful soft color flowers. Even though the ribbon is small the honor is huge!!! You do fantastic decorating work, you can tell you heart was in it, it flows through the hands onto the cake. Enjoy your honor.
