Ok everyone I'm getting better at baking cakes but this one (treasure chest) I'm a little worried about. Why couldn't I use a bread pan and then shape it.What do you guys think? I have to do this cake for my son on the 7th of July.I'm really worried about this cake not turning out.I have alot of family that doesn't have faith in me and I want to show them that I can do whatever I put my mine too!!!!

Thanks Again,
I wouldn't know what I would do without you guys!!!!!!!

I know I have read suggestions on how to do these before, sorry I can't be of more help than that. So while this is being bumped for you, maybe you could run a search?!? Hope you get what you need...

bread pan sounds like a plan...and I wouldn't even shape it. the gently sloped sides would look good.

but -- because of how deep the pan is, I would for sure do the flower nail as a heating core trick (grease a flower nail and put in pan flat side to bottom)

top is usually made of RKT (rice krispie treats) -- easy to shape resting on a cakeboard and then propped open w/ a skewer or dowel that is hidden by all the "bounty" you place on top.

I did one for my little boy a couple of months ago http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=353923

I just used a styrofoam dummy for the lid (it was my first treasure chest as well) and it was much easier to transport and keep lifted.

I'll answer questions for you if you have any.

Tara

Heavenlycakes and stacyyarger--- I'M NOT WORTHY! (bowing at your feet) Those are beautiful. I wish I could get my gold and silver accent pieces to look like yours. My "paint" always clumps. Great job to both of you!

Thanks Gretta! The trick is to make it use enough vodka or lemon extract so that it's a paint consistency. And you can always add more liquid if needed, or when it starts to dry out slightly so it's nice and fluid - like ink. Or at least that's the consistency I use.
