Cake Freshness Question For A Novice Baker!?!

I am making a birthday cake for this coming weekend. I will be traveling to Iowa with it (2 hr. drive). I am planning on taking it to the birthday girls on the 29th. They are thinking of saving it until July 3rd for a party.
Do you think they can just put it in the fridge for a few days? Would it be better to freeze it? Would freezing it effect the BC?
It will be a simple white cake with a cookies 'n' cream filling. BC frosting.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
I think I will be doing BC in chocolate and light pink.
Keep it covered while it's defrosting (in fridge or counter) so that the condensation collects on the wrapper, not the cake. You should be good to go with this.
Freeze before driving with it, use AC in the car, pack ice around it/covered, then pop it into their freezer. Triple wrap: I would use two layers of saran wrap, one layer of foil, put it in a box, then seal it in a plastic bag.
Also, I would freeze it, unwrapped for 2 hours to let it set, then wrap it so that you don't ding the decorations.
You shouldn't have any problems!
