Wow what a wonderful cake!! Love the two tier grad cakes - around where I live - can't get anyone to think beyond a sheet cake.
Hope your DS is doing fine.

Awesome as usual! I always wonder what is going to happen when I have a cake scheduled and an emergency comes up...yikes.

Hey if you have time can you explain to me how you can do the edible images on a fondant plaque (if that is how you did that) without it drying out or cracking? I think I must be the only one in the world whose edible images dry out fast, and that don't completely dissolve in icing (tried everything). Do you ice the plaque first and then lay it over the icing?

Thanks everyone for your comments...
re: the plaque...I print out the words, cut them out and keep the sheet in a ziploc bag till I need it. I take some fondant, mix in some Gumtex, roll it out about 8" x 3" or so....I wet only the area where my words are to be attached...right in the middle of the long rectangle. Then I roll the edges of the rectangle in towards the wording. The seam is hidden by the "roll" on either side. Then I let it sit for a few minutes before I attach it to the cake. I hope this helps!

That cake is fabulous! Thanks for sharing it with us. Glad to hear that your son is fine. Nothing like taking your child to the ER to get your heart pumping, huh? I've had to do it three times myself.

(Oh and during my last pregnancy there was a possibility that my yet unborn DD might have a hole in her heart that might need repairing upon her birth. Thank God she turned out to be okay when she was born).

same here. i love to do tiers but because of our local and those like you mentioned i never get to do anything more then a two layer ten inch (yawn) and even theni hear "my thats a big cake" ... what? geesh.

that same topper is similar to the one i had discussed with my last customers they were supposed to make it themselves or buy one; they did neither. which is why my grad cake looks funny with a stuffed smiley face that plays several sayings when bapped and has a couple package ribbons on it. when i called over that day just before delivery (they live across the street from me) and asked about the topper i got "does it really need a topper?"

i was like ah.. yes.. its designed that way..... icon_confused.gif

geesh

It's always the last thing I do on a cake ....(I'm the worst procrastinater in existence) I always finish at the last possible moment, so I don't know if it cracks afterwards....but I never had a complaint...
