I feel I've let yet another cake slip through without charging enough. So Im askin for an opinion on what you would have charged. It is a 6", 8", and 10" vanilla cake, BC icing and fondant pearls covered with gold luster dust. Gumpaste roses and gumpaste tiara. I made all the pearls myself.[/img]
The cake is beautiful. I don't have any idea. I am a beginner but I would love to see what everyone thinks about the price.

I would say at least $250...Pearls are time consuming and so is painting luster dust.

Yeah. Sorry. I meant to say that too. By NO MEANS did I mean charing as little as $185 did that reflect on the job you did... which was amazing! icon_smile.gif If only we could get paid what we TRUELY deserve for our cakes.... $1500!icon_smile.gif

I am curious too.

My price assuming it was not torted and there was only buttercream filling would have been

$140 for the cake itself (for the cake/buttercream icing/buttercream filling-one layer my price per serving is $2.00)
$80-90 for all of the addtional items (that is a lot of work for pearls, roses, and tiara, plus you did all of the gold luster dust)

so total $220-230

And I would have delivered this so there would have been a delivery charge for anything over 7miles from the center of my town.

6" 2 layers serves 12
8" 2 layers serves 25
10" 2 layers serves 39
I charge 2.00 per seving for buttercream icing and additional for fondant and gumpaste decorations.

Your cake served a total of 76 people. The cake base price would have been $152.00 and I would haved tacked on about another $80.00 for the fondant, gumpaste, and RI decorations, giving you a total of $232.00. So I would have charged in that range.

And by the way that cake is awesome. I would not have hesitated to charge a decent amount for that cake.

All of the above pricing is in the ballpark, but I want to know when you're going to post this cake in your gallery so I can mark it as a favorite!

What an elegant cake! I would have charged between $225 and $275 for a cake taking that much work. icon_smile.gif

cake was really lovely, and you did undercharge, but I want to weigh in that making the pearls yourself shouldn't mean that the cost is higher. The look of a purchased dragee and the look of one you make isn't significant enought to warrant an upcharge IMHO. Now the tiara or flowers are a different issue, because I think the ones people make on this site are infiintely better than what I see available as ass produced items.

How much did she charge? I must have missed it somewhere b/c I don't see it icon_sad.gif

BTW I never did say how much I like that cake. I think it would be a very nice 50th wedding ann cake.

And I agree with Indydebi I want it in your photos so I can save it too!

I would've charged $3 a slice plus extra for the tiara and roses. Now, my slices are on the larger side, I don't get 25 out of an 8" cake. HTH. Beautiful cake BTW.

Ok girls, I was busy delivering it so I couldn't respond quickly. I broke a flower when I got it there and that never happens so I didn't bring the extras with me and had to come all the way home and get a replacement. I definately know I undercharged. I only got $60 for this cake. I had asked for $75 to start with but due to me having to give her the cake since I was leaving town a day earlier I dropped the price a little cus of the hassle on her part to keep it overnight and delivery.

Alright, now I'm going to post it in the gallery. Sorry it took so long and I'm glad everyone loves it. It's one of my favorites too!

Beautiful cake! Sounds like it was more hassle for you though, not her. You definitely undercharged!! $60 for a three tiered cake?? Even at $2 per slice it would have been around $180. I charge around $3 per slice also and that's even a little low for my area. People will pay for quality! Don't sell yourself short! icon_smile.gif

Thank you, thank you, and thank you again for all the nice comments. I let this go so cheap because it was for a girl I've done a fair amount of work with. I hadn't intended on practically giving it away it just turned out that way. When I brought it to her today I told her I wouldn't do a cake like that for under $150 again. I always grumble about doing cakes when she calls because she doesn't want to pay much for them but I do them for her cuz she keeps coming back and its getting me exposure. After doing this one though, I think I'm ready to move on to bigger and better paying things!
