I am meeting with a bride next week so she can look at my portfolio and to see exactly what she wants for her wedding in January. It seems like she knows what she wants has a budget of $600 for a cake serving 200 people. Am I way out of my league?? I've never done a cake this big which means I'll be buying some new cake pans and possibly a stand. I'll also have to draw up a contract, etc. Take a look at my pictures and give me some constructive feedback, please. Thanks!

Hey you have to start somewhere!! I looked at your cakes and they are great!! You can do this. What you need to ask yourself is - How difficult is the cake design? Do you feel comfortable with the design? I would make a few "dummy" cakes before time to get some practice. Even ask the bride over to see the "dummy" cake and give her input. Also your cake stand can be very simple - you can use glass blocks - inexpensive but elegant.

NEWTODECORATING did my wedding cake - member here at CC. I actually was the first wedding cake that she ever made. She did a fablous job and did everything I mentioned above.

You will do GREAT!! icon_biggrin.gif

You can do it! After seeingyour photos I'm not sure why you have any doubts!!!!

Take it tier by tier and treat them as seperate entities and then assemble...

Good Luck.

You are definitely not out of your league. I looked at your photos and you have already done some tiered cakes, so you definitely have experience. Your cakes all look great, so relax. You can do this for sure.

You can do it! No question. Now you might as well do it and get that hesitation behind you because more are probably coming your way soon. I'm rooting for you! thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

Your work is so clean and neat, looks like you really pay attention to detail. I don't think you will have a problem at all.

I ordered four cake plateus from them and I'm sure I still managed to save some money than if I had bought two new ones from somewhere else online.

Exactly. A 3-tier wedding cakes is just 3 cakes that happen to be stacked on top of each other. One at a time. That's all it is. One cake at a time.
