Can anyone tell me if I need to use dowel if I put a ball cake on top of a sheet cake??

I'll be using the ball pan and putting it on it's own board first, but I don't know if I should dowel so it doesn't sink into the cake.
Also, will it need a center dowel through the ball and the sheet cake to keep it from moving??
Thanks. icon_smile.gif

I made a BB cake and I put it on it's own board with one dowel under it and then one through the ball and into the cake below. I didn't want it rolling away on me...LOL! Worked great...better safe than sorry.

I definitely believe in using dowels just to be safe instead of sorry! Sometimes I use those plastic drink stirrers instead of a wooden dowel, prettier colors you know! Janice

when i made my son's Kirby cake (ball pan cake on star cake) i used a small board under the ball cake. I didn't use a dowel but i didn't have to transport the cake. if transporting the cake i would have doweled. Like lisa said - better safe than sorry!

I have used a white dowel under the ball and then sharpened a wooden dowel rod to go through the ball to keep it from moving. Hope that helps!
