I was going by the recipe on the site..it says 3 boxes for it... I did not get to see it... I had to leave the room (puppy issues) when she made it
I'd love to say you were missing something special....but I can't
And how about what she called a bottom border? Did I really see her smooth it out with her finger?
She wasn't sweaty enough to have been in the kitchen baking all those cakes.
Finally, how can anyone take baking or decorating advice seriously from someone who doesn't know the difference between extract and flavor oil? I envision some newbie taking that whole bottle and dumping it into the icing, because she called it extract.

Wow ya'll are vicious!
Sheesh. She is a person after all, wether you like her or not. I watch all of them except Emeril (who is really going to make his stuff at home, plus he just bugs me LOL). Even if I don't always like what they make I glean some tips here and there on other stuff. Oh by the way, Sandra did go to cooking school, she is well trained. Did any of you see her on the next food network star? They said what her training was. Her stuff is for people like my sister who don't really like to cook and so she makes things really easy. How she likes wilton fondant I don't know, but different strokes for different folks.
I agree with the Sandra Lee bashing!
Although Giada makes me feel like a fat person with her trim lttle figure and perfect clothing she knows her food. I have always been told that when making dessert it always good to know the savory side to blend the sweet side. She speaks about food with passion.
Although I could be just reacting to the fact that I can eat hot real food again after having my Tonsils out over three weeks ago-----It was a long exausting recovery that I will tell anyone never to to do!!
To freddyfl.......FYI: in many interviews, Sandra Lee has admitted that she dropped out of cooking school (Cordon Bleu) after TWO DAYS!!! As she said, "It's just too much work!" As you can see from her show, she's quite content to rely on crap to serve her guests! I never went to cooking school, but I could out-cook her blind-folded AND with both hands tied behind my back. Heck, I believe a monkey could out-cook her! Her show is great for school-age kids who want to play in the kitchen, but beyond that........no thank you! Just say NO! to crap!!
Hey lsawyer -
why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel!!!! ![]()
okay, I stand corrected. So she isn't formally trained. On the show Next Food Network Star they basically said that she had been classically trained at Cordeon Blue (SP I know) So I foolishly believed them. My statement that she is still a human being stands though,
unless further proof to deny this can be found . LOL
I've always wanted to have my own cook show but after reading this I'm not sure I would want to...so much judging! Sheesh! I agree with Freddiefl..these people are humans and they are on the food network so somebody must think they have talent, and besides nobodys perfect. I definitely have my favorites but do we have to say such mean things about people? Where is the love??
Kelleym -- I'm with you on that re-decorated kitchen every other day thing. Everything-color matches from her outfit to her earrings to the kitchen decor to the tablescape to the appliances. What's up with that???
She can redecorate her kitchen every week but can't do more than 30% of her food "home made"?
I'm just glad I didn't see her stuff the marshmallows into that poor angel food cake's hole. I might have stuffed my foot into the screen of my TV.
For a while there, I was watching Sandra every day-- there's something addictive about her show...I can never look away-- kind of like riding by a car accident---the finger licking is the worst though!! :O)
Personally, I think she's got it made-- and if someone wants to pay me that kind of money to lick my fingers and make desserts of cool whip and vanilla wafers, just show me where to sign!
Why, yes, of course she's human. However, being human implies that one uses one's brain, common sense and sound judgment. For example, I'm a teacher; I don't pretend to be a Forensic Scientist or an Engineer. If I did, then I would have to be expected to get nailed to the wall for attempting to fake it. And rightfully so; I'd have it coming. As I said, I think she'd be great for kids. (However, when I took cooking classes in 7th grade, we did a heck of a lot better than she did!) I think her true niche is decorating and crafts. She truly seems to have a knack for that. But cooking??? I don't think so!!!! Just my 2 cents!
i'm kinda feeling sorry for her right now. I think if you dont like her just turn off the TV and go make a cake or something. I dont like some things about her but she does have some good tips. I have to admit that the cake today was bad, she makes it seem so simple and we all know it isnt. There are worse people on the food network than sandra lee. What about that robin miller chick, cooking 1 day for the entire week. Sandra lee is annoying sometimes but there are alot of annoying people on tv who gets big bux for being that way. Someone must like her alot for her show to still be on. Also we cant hate on giada because she has a good figure and can eat pasta 24/7. Lets try to play nice.
If I recall, some of the shows are recorded in personal homes. The family has to move out of the home for 6 weeks or longer to film the show, such as Giada's. Yes, Italians do talk with thier hands, she has a big head, good physique, and lets us see the pearly whites.
As for Sandra, you know she doesn't pay for anything that changes weekly, and probably the only nutrition she gets is to lick her fingers on the show.
btw is anyone watching the cake competition tonight on foodtv??

Yep, I AM!!!!!![]()
i hope i'm not missing it by being on here. what time does it start?
i hope i'm not missing it by being on here. what time does it start?
Well, I live in Florida so here it starts at 10:00pm eastern time.
cool i'm in fl too and i get to see my fair brady wedding at 9. whew i thought they would be at the same time.
Okay, so lets say a few nice and positive things about Sandra Lee:
1. She does have some neat ideas on some of the stuff she does, like:
* The Easter Bunny she made once. I thought it was cute.
* An ice cream filling she used with a cookies and cream ice cream,
where she chilled in 2 inch cake pan and then took it out so it would
fit perfectly inside the same shape of the cake
* the cookies she made once, although I would use a different kind of
icing, they were not so bad.
* Someone here mentioned that her sister of relative or friend met
her and she is very nice person (that counts a lot in my book
)
* On that wedding cake she was doing today, I loved the idea of
sprinkling the grapes with dusting sugar to make them look frosted
etc...
Overall, like I said before, just toss the bad and keep the good...![]()
I liked the grapes thing too and her wedding cake shape cookie today was also really cute and a great idea.
You know, any time a celebrity does a show with kids, and treats the kids well, that's notable. Some folks if you do a show or something, or attend one of their things, they do the minimum they can, and are not so nice.
I remember hearing once about a certain quite-famous singer who used a high school choir for a video, wouldn't let them go to lunch, and when folks began to complain, he sent out for Happy Meals, for crying out loud.............
"Well, you know what they say: if you don't have anything nice to say about anybody, come sit by me!" ![]()
Oh, yeah....her ode to kids! Let's not forget her recipe/episode for "kiddie cocktails!" Nothing like promoting drinking! This is NOT about her personally, she is just not a cook. If I want junk, I'll drive thru a fast-food place. Yes, we can bad-mouth her show! And if I serve garbage, I expect to get bad-mouthed, too! For those of you who thinks she's wonderful, no judgment here. Take what you think is good; I just don't see much of it.
I Tivo'd Sandra Lee for a while, without watching it, thinking it would be a good show. She drinks a LOT of alcohol it seems. Every show has a 'drink' recipe...do people drink that much in real life? I'm a non-drinker so I have no clue.
My favorite is and always will be Paula Deen! And let me just say thanks to all of ya'll for not bashing her!
She cracks me up, whether I like what she's cooking or not.
