I'm sure this is really simple, but ....
Anyone willing to share how to make those cute fondant buttons for baby cakes? You know, the Wilton kind.
TIA -- S.
I have button molds. But I have heard others say they make a ball of fondant about the size of a small marble, lay it on top of a button and press down to flatten a bit, then lay a smaller button on top of the fondant and press, it will leave the imprint of the smaller button, including the thread holes on the fondant.
Thanks a bunch, Shirley -- see I knew it was an easy answer!
Where did you get your button mold?
S.
I made my own with silcone plastique and some odd assorted buttons I had. But you can buy button molds. Here is one, also check out her others molds. The purse assesories and bow molds are great.

i found this on a polymer clay website... don't think it would be classed as food safe, but for decorations that won't be eaten it's be okay... http://www.puffinalia.com/miraclemold/miraclemold.html

I've been making different buttons this week & I've had a blast! I sat in my kitchen & started looking around to get some ideas on how to make the buttons. A light bulb came on! I used bday candles to make a pattern on the buttons (I just rolled it over the button & walaa!), I used the small icing tube lid by Wilton to make button holes for a few of the buttons. I used the no-skid shelf paper to make patterns. I used tips to make the button holes. I used all the different shape fondant cutters too. It is so easy to make buttons. Also I used buttons to make buttons (thanks Shirley). They came out really cute
