I have a request for a 5 tiered cake 16", 14", 12", 10" 8" painted gold with some piping over the gold. I have painted with gold luster dust and vodka but just smaller areas or details. For those of you with an air-brush would you recommend painting the tiers with a brush or an air-brush? I'm also trying to figure out just how much luster dust it might take to cover so many tiers. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Debbie
I would definitely recommend using an airbrush rather than brushing it on. The effect will be more even and not so "heavy" looking.
As for how much you'll need - I'm not really sure there. I guess that depends on how much you spray on. But you're going to want to buy a few jars of it - probably at least 4.
Thank you. Does anyone know the proper mix of dust to liquid for an airbrush?

I don't measure. I go by how it looks. You want it to be liquid enough to go through the airbrush with well blended color. If it looks really liquid, you won't transfer enough color to the cake and you'll just wet down the cake. I hope that makes sense. For me, it's more of a gut feeling when I mix it. Test it out on paper towel first to see if it's the right consistency.
Thanks for your help! It does make sense.
