Hey gang! This is a full sheet cake for my DD school's 5th grade graduation. I would love some feedback on what else it needs. It seems so blah to me...TIA!

hmmm I don't know, but I think if the little cowboy was bigger it would fill up the extra space and maybe look more balanced.

I think it's cute...I agree that a bigger cowboy would have looked more balanced, but it's probably too late for that, huh?! Can't really think of anything unless you add a little more color to the border...adding anything to the top would be too much, I think...

On another note....I've never heard of 5th grade graduation...that's a new one to me. Kindergarten and 8th grade I've heard of, never 5th. Interesting. Jodie

Looks great, love the writing. Maybe add some more to the border....possibly some red dots in the between the shells with like a number 3 tip? Or just add some more color to the border.

Looks great! I'd just take the bottom border color and add a little color to the top border with it. Maybe use the leaf tip and stick a little color between the shells? That will add a little more color/depts to the top.

Thanks everyone! I too agree about the cowboy. It was my first attempt at a Frozen Buttercream transfer, and I didn't really get the perspective right on the size, but was still pleased at how easy it was to do! I will try adding some color to the top border. I would have used the brown on the top as well, but I ran out of brown food color and went with the white instead. Helps to be prepared, doesn't it!

How about a rope coming out of the cowboy's hand and lassoing (sp?) the words? It would kind of join the three different areas together. Looks very cute though and I know the kids will just love it.

What about some fun confetti in the colors that you are already using? It would give the white area some color without overpowering your image.

It's a very cute cake and I don't know too many kids that don't like confetti.

Good luck! icon_biggrin.gif

You can always add color into the white areas with some edible glitter or a really thin chocolate r royal icing scroll. Thin and long and continuous like you would do around the edge or border of something. Here's a website: www.sweetbrantleys.com There's a cake in the picture that is a sheet cake and says Happy B-day Bubba...there is something like it on that cake.

Looks like you did great on your first transfer...Warning...those things are addictive! Once I did my first one I was hooked and trying to make up excuses to make cakes!!

As for being prepared...I can't tell you how many times I get started on a baking project and have to send my husband to the store for something...just about every time. I always think I have this or that, only to find out I don't...you would think I'd start checking ahead of time...Jodie

I like the lasso idea. What about adding a rolled up diploma next to the cap?

Thanks again everyone for the awesome feedback! I was thinking about the rolled up diploma idea, but was wondering if I could pull it off. Would it hold a shape if I just rolled up some fondant?

The lasso and date sounds good. I might consider adding some cactus, sage brush or rocks around the cowboy so he is grounded and not floating in the air.

I was thinking lasso too. Although the rolled up diploma sounds good too. What about making it appear that he is standing on a wood fence? Please let us see the finished product.

Is this any better? I added a bit of the bottom border color to the top border, I added some grass, and I connected the exclamation point to the Wrangler. (I know, it doesn't look much like a lasso, but I tried!)

I think it looks like a lasso! Just those little touches really did add to it. I wouldn't do too much more...sometimes less is better! I think it looks really cute and I'm sure the kids will love it! Jodie
