i'm afraid of public speaking.....not sure how it started, but i've never been able to give a speech in public!!! I always make it right til my name is called telling me it's my turn.....as soon as my name is called....I get uncontrollable shakes first...I start to cry hysterically...then I throw up...and start to hyperventalite!! not fun at all!! and it usually takes me hours to recover from the trauma.
i even took some public speaking classes in high school and college hoping they would help me 'overcome'.......i think it made it worse!! I was soo bad that after my 2nd attempt in high school the teacher only made me do the assignments and turn them in...never had to give the presentations again b/c they said I freaked her out w/how bad I was and how long it took me to calm down (they almost sent me to the hospital the first time it happened in her class).
same in college....after I tried a couple times but it couldn't even make it out of my chair...let alone in front of the class.....I just had to do the assignments or he put w/me a group where I helped w/the presentations...but was NEVER required to speak or stand up in front of everyone.
i've turned down a few jobs b/c I would be required to do public speaking and that is one thing I NEVER lie about in job interviews!! It isn't even anything I can sorta kinda fake my way through!!
Hypothetical fears include something happening to my kids and husband (although I don't worry TOO much about him...he is well insured
), or something happening to ME and my kids not having a mom. Or my husband re-marrying some hootchie momma and my kids would have a hootchie momma mom. That's just not cool.
Real fears...I don't really have alot. Reptiles I guess. And clowns. Don't like them. Or mimes.
ok...ALOT of things
but I have to say probably the one thing that sticks out is fireworks. I know, almost un-American huh?, but my father threw an m-80 (equivalent to a 1/4 stick of dynamite) under a lawn chair that I was sitting in when I was 12-13. It was right around the 4th too, so as much as I love celebrating America, I hate the boomers that go with it. I am sooooo glad I now live in an area where there is almost always a burn ban so I don't hve to be tortured with these!
I also DREAD bridges, snakes, bugs, spiders (all the like), and my feet being tickled. ![]()
use to be flying then i flew in bil plane, so that has been conquered. so it would have to be bridges.
welll......now its....
SPIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!! [/center]
BEES
This comes from the fact that I am hugely allegeric to Bee stings but I just freak at any flying insect (cause usually it is a bee). Also it didn't help that an office I once worked in had a hive established itself between the walls of the building and we had bees flying all around the office. I think I murdered about 50 - 100 bees that day. They eventually realised that they had to move the hive. Plus I refused to go to work until the hive was gone!!!
big simi truck behide me
I was stop at a stop sign and one ran over the top of me in my car it took them 30 mins to get me out from under it.

All truckers aren't bad. My hubby is a TRUCK DRIVER, has been for 17 yrs. Knock on wood, he has never had or caused a wreck.

Ummm. Yeah...let me see:
(Not really afraid of but seriously hate
Camel Crickets
Water bugs
Roaches
S-N-A-I-L-S!!!!!!!!!
I seriously do hate me some snails and roaches and camel crickets and OMG--OMG--WATER BUGS!
GAHHHHHHH!
--Knox--
Knox, are you LEO?
Ok..so I am afraid of a lot of things! I guess mostly spiders. There was a black widow in our storage once and now everytime I see a spider I think it is a black widow, my dh thinks i'm pathetic... "babe..i'm serious, its a huge black widow!!!" dh ignoring me "yeah...ok"
Ashleymomx2- Are our dh's brothers? We had a brown recluse spider (very dangerous in NC) Now every single one I see..... just change the black widow in your story and that's just about how it sounds!
My biggest fear is public bathrooms. Sounds weird ... I know. I got locked in the one at school in Kindergarten for over 2 hours. It scared me so bad that I still get nervous.
SMURFS!!! (just kidding randel)
For real it's spiders!!!! Nothing is creepier!
I don't like driving on cliff or mountainous roads where there you are right next to the drop off.
My mom has a problem driving through the mountains - even if you had a very wide berth between you and the road. I use to think, "Come on mom, what's there to be afraid of".
Then one year we went to the Grand Canyon pulling a trailer. AAA routed us along the southern rim road. There were places for car to chicken out and turn around, but no place for a trailer to make a u-turn, so we were committed. I was in the back seat on the passenger side of the car. I remember looking out my window and not being able to see the side of the road. The drop off was so deep it looked shallow. Tears started streaming down my face, but I didnt say anything. We wont talk about the state my mom was in at this point.
Anyway, needless to say we made it to the top and came back down through a middle road (no cliffs on either side). If I ever go back, even with a car, I would take that middle road!

So funny that you say that because if my dh says 'no, its not a black widow" my next statement is...."so, its a brown recluse" BLAH! Ok, so I really dislike all spiders!!
My biggest fear is lightning. When I was a kid lightning hit the power lines next to our house and my bed was next to an outlet and my caught on fire while I was sleeping. And the funny part is I live in the lightning capital which does not help. Also spiders but that is because I am allergic to them. The last thing is bridges. Don't like going over them. That is because of going over the Sunshine Skyway 2 days after it colapsed and seeing what it looked like.
regymusic- ME TOO!!!! OMG!! So scared of heights! And I have been on a couple of those 'mountainous' trips where if you are on the passenger side, you can not see the road. Talk about panic attack!
Always nice to know someone else shares a fear that you have. How are you on those high arch bridges that are two lanes wide and look as if the car should slide backwards as you're going across it?
Yep, same way over those! What about underwater tunnels? We have gone to Florida on vacation the past 3 years, and on our way there we have to go down under a river, I believe, in Mississippi (I think). I am sitting there with my eyes closed and hands tightly clasped in my lap. With husband and kids laughing at me!!

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! Bridges over water is already too much for me!
I'm also glad to see there are others here that share similar fears. It makes me feel better.
NeeNee30 - I thought it was only my family that would laugh at my fears!
I close my eyes and grab the car door. Not that it would help any if my fears were actually realized but I can't help it! My DH just thinks it is just hysterical ![]()
Oh no, Calla74, it is definitely NOT only your family. I am terrified of grandaddy longleg spiders, and my husband and oldest son will pick them up and act like they are going to throw it on me!!
And they think that it is hilarious! One of these days, they are going to do it (whether intentional or not), and I have to say that I can not be held responsible for my actions if that thing lands on me...
