Hi,

I have stacked lots of three layer cakes before, but I'm wondering if I need to do anything extra or different to stack Five layers. I am planning on using four dowles between each layer. Is that going to be enough? I read on another post that someone is putting a long dowl down the center, is that only if you are going to move it? I plan on stacking it at the reception hall.

Thank You

4 dowels is not enough for a cake this heavy. 8 is probably better in the bottom tier, 6-8 on the next, then 4-6 closer to the top.

When it is this heavy, you can't have too many dowels.

And, to be exra safe, I would use the hollow plastic ones that Wilton makes. They are easy to cut, with a larger base to help prevent and tilting. However, if you can't get them. wooden ones will be fine.

I'm confused, are we talking about tiers or layers?
