I am delivering a 6 inch cake tomorrow for a bride wanting to taste the cake. She already picked out the flavors so it will be really simple to make.

? Do I need to do a small replica of the design she has chosen as well? Or can I get away with icing and border?

I never decorated for a taste test. Your portfolio will show off your skills. The taste test is just that - for taste.

I agree. I don't even take time to ice it pretty. I use the star tip and put zig zags on the cakes. Here is what my sample cakes look like:

(ok...the server is running slow, so I can't get the link, but it's the two 3x6 cakes on a silver tray in my photos)

If they want to see my design skill, that's what my website and photos are for. This is a "tasting"..... where they are "tasting" my work.

And it's free..... so take what I give you and be happy! icon_lol.gif

I do decorate the cake but I don't deliver, they come to me. I decorate so they can not only taste the cake flavors but get an idea of what their cake may look like and what type of work I do. I ask ahead on flavors, colors and flowers for wedding. The sample cake also goes home with them, I don't charge for it or the consultation, but I do charge enough for the wedding cake to compensate. I have booked every cake I have done a consultation for except one who no showed me.
