i cant believe i broke my wrist on my kitchen aid. i was making bread and i thought i turned off the machine, but i guess it wasn't off.(my motor is dying) i stuck my hand in and the top of the dough hook pinned my hand against the metal bowl and oops...it broke my wrist......
worst part is, after a while of not doing cakes (i am pregnant and cakes wgere making nme so sick) i finally had 3 cakes for this weekend.....not anymore..... i am bumbed.......
so i guess the bottom line is.....time for a new kitchen aid

I have had that happen, the off and on switch is set too close to the locking switch and if you just barely bump it, it can turn on. Not a good safety feature. I am sorry about your wrist, hope it and your pregnancy are going well.

Ouch! I'm sorry.

On the bright side, you do get a whole new appliance when you are completely healed. icon_lol.gif

You poor thing! When I was pregnant, I was always getting hurt while cooking. I have a burn on my wrist from spaghetti sauce where I thought I had turned the burner down, but had actually turned it up.

Wow! I would let them know what happened. I have to unplug my before taking any thing off. Mine likes to turn on with no warning--my husband took it apart and fixed it but it is not staying off again. They need to work on that issue before others get hurt.

I almost had that happen to me. My wooden spoon bit the dust that time. I hope you enjoy and heal this pregnancy.

Hope you're wrist heals quickly and you feel better soon. I would definitely let KA know about this incident. Who knows, they may even offer you some sort of compensation or settlement (can you tell my hubby's a lawyer - nonpracticing, but still .......). icon_wink.gif

Also, here's wishing you a wonderful prenancy and better yet, an easy delivery with a healthy baby at the end!

All the best.

Curious abut this, though, because my on/off switch and the switch to lock the head down are on opposite sides of the mixer. I have the KA artisan.

Wow! You are lucky you came away with just a broken wrist. Yikes!

(The instruction booklet does say to unplug before attempting to take off the beaters. There's that hind sight thing again!)

vickitilghman- he 5 qt does not have the lift up top. you lift the bowl. and the off and slow switch are crazy close.
Its funny how everyone says to unplug the KA first, we have been living in this apt for 6 yrs and it has not been unplugged since we moved in. i use it so much that i am on my second motor. i realy need the proffesional strength....
