Ok I have to do a baby shower for the 12th and they want the cake to look like the invitation. How would you do the animals? Because they arent lined in black looks like the transfer would be hard to do and that would cause a different look anyways. I kinda think it would be ok to try freehand (I did this on a sheet of paper but not with icing ). What do you all think? How should I do it?

These would be easy transfers to do and I understand you not wanting to outline in black, however, I can see them outlined in white and looking very nice. Looking forward to seeing the finished cake. icon_smile.gif

My first thought was MMF since the animals remind me of paper cut-outs. You can roll and cut and layer, and just lay them on.

Can you outline in the colors of the animals? such as purple outline for the elephant and yellow for the giraffe? That way it will blend in...

That is what I would do too. I would outline them in white and maybe make the yellow color of the cake a little lighter to accentuate the animals.

This would be so cute with the animals all around over and over and the border at the top and bottom in multi color.

I have a chocolate mold with these type of animals. Can I borrow this Idea for our "welcome baby party"

Can't wait to see what you do.

Good Luck

just outline them in the colors they're outlined in the pic......outline the giraffe in light pink and dark pink on the feet and so forth.....it's not any more difficult just gonna take a little more switching of bags.....load up all your colors with the tip of choice.....( I have like 10 tips each of numbers 1-4 for this exact purpose) and then it's just a matter of picking up each bag and piping the right colors on it.........this would be adorable as a transfer!

I think outlining in white would be good too. If you look at the elephent for example, where his head meets his body it's a light color and looks great. I can also picture the animals as cookies. I love the look of cookies on cakes!

I agree with chocoalteandpeanutbutter! That was totally my first thought, too. Do they want sheet cake? If not, I might also want to make it a two tier square or round and place the dried fondant animals, maybe make the border out of fondant, too (to match the edging of the invitation)... I always want to do two tier, but usually get the idea nixed by people wanting "simple to serve" sheet cake. I love when I have carte blanche icon_razz.gif

Ok here it is...I would LOVE to do the transfer but I am worried about each animal being raised, can the transfers be smoothed after set on the cake...the cake will be a 1/2 sheet cake and I dont want to try to do them all at once as a transfer. I also love the fondant cut out idea but flat looking like the card, they want a sheet cake so the stacked cake is out of the question. If I can get a answer about the raised effect of the transfer then I will probably do that. I thought about the striping in the different colors of the BC around the sides and then the yellow top. So does anybody know if the transfer will smooth down so it isn't raised ? Can I just put a thin layer of BC on the back of the tranfer or do I really need to put a thick layer? Oh and thank you all so much for the fast responses!!

I have done this exact invitation as a cake. I don't know if it's in my photos, but it's on my website http://sunshinespecialtycakes.googlepages.com

I changed the border colors a little to be more boyish.

Also my transfers are always very thin. If you really want a flat look, I would do a transfer of the whole size of the cake. You would do the animals, and then the "backing" would be whatever your icing is for the rest of the cake and you would end up with a FBCT that is the size of your cake. I've done that with the "4C of Southern Indiana" cake on my website as well.

wgoat5 - What about the pin prick method, then smooth down with the viva method. Once you smooth it with the paper towel it doesn't really stick up.
