Welcome to Cake Central. there is a huge library of information in the threads here. There are some issues with searching just now, but soon you will be able to find many links to lots of the questions new decorators often have.

You can make gumpaste, or buy it ready made. Most of the commercial brands are very good. You may have to adjust each one to make it perfect-powdered sugar if it is too sticky, shortening if it is too dry. I strongly recommend buying at least one package, so you can see how it should feel. The recipe and instructions at nicholaslodge.com are the best, in my opinion.

As for fondant, many people like the mmf-marshmallow fondant. The recipe and instructions are in the recipe file. and there are many posts about fondant. The cake bible has recipes, as does baking911.com

good luck.

Welcome! As said, you can make or buy it - doesn't really make any difference with the gumpaste because people don't eat it. Be alot more picky with the fondant though - some of that store bought stuff is really terrible! I ate some white glue in school that tasted better. This site has some great fondant recipes - from marshmellow to European - search other sites also though - don't limit yourself when it comes to recipes.
You can't beat this site for the people and their willingness to share and teach!! One big, happy, crazy for cakes family! thumbs_up.gif
