I have a question for those of you with an Epson printer. I just got my edible ink cartridges and put them into the printer and I can't get anything to print. Do I need to take off the silver foil looking piece at the top that has the color name on it? I've tried printhead cleaning and everything else under maintenence and can't get anything to show up. It's a brand new printer so I know the print head isn't clogged. I accidentaly threw away the instructions, that kopykake sent me on how to install the cartridges. Any help would be great! Thanks!

I just asked my hubby and he said, Yes. You need to remove the silver paper tab thingy....well he didn't use those exact words icon_smile.gif

Thank you soooo much! I'm so glad that's all it is. I didn't want to be all night trying to figure it out!

Okay I'm getting color now but it's not quite right. I've tried printing a few pages and it just doesn't seem right. There are a few lines in the picture as well. I've already done the maintenence, does anyone know what else need to be done? My regular printer was so easy to hook up, this one is giving me fits. I need it for a cake on Friday!! HELP ME!!!!!

I can't imagine the print head being clogged since you just got it but you might try removing the cartridges and giving them a good shake over paper towels. I'm thinking it could be airlock but the previous printing when no ink was coming out could have damaged the print head.

Well I got everything working finally and now have no ink left!! I'm so discouraged. I paid $72 for this ink alone and now have nothing to show for it.
I called the people at kopykake and they said that the epson cartridges can't be reused. Is this true?

You have no ink left?? Where did it all go?

Is the printer telling you it's out of ink or are the cartridges actually empty? The chips keep count of the number of prints and won't let you print past that number even if there's plenty of ink left. You may just need to reset them.

One of the problems with Epson is the chipped cartridges. You can reuse them (refill) but you'll need a chip resetter.

Epson has been sued because of their chipped cartridges, which tell you its out of ink when in fact there is lots of ink left. You can download a program that overrides the Epson program and will allow you to continue printing until it actually is out of ink. You can also file a claim for $45 as part of the class action settlement. Everything you need to know is contained in this thread.

Oooo...I didn't know they were getting sued over them. I just knew they were causing a lot of problems. I prefer my cartridges dumb icon_lol.gif That's what they call the Canon ones because they don't think for themselves.

That's what I'd do...file for the $20 check+ option and spend $10 on a chip resetter.

Wow! That's amazing. I don't really like Epsons, but bought one because it could print on disks, which is a feature I need. I thought the thing was quite the little ink hog! And those cartridges are PRICEY! Now I understand....

It's on the list. I'll be filing. Thanks for this information! Maybe these greedy SOBs will figure it out one of these days.

Hahaha! I've never heard that. icon_lol.gif

If you read a bit through that thread on slickdeals (beware, that is a VERY dangerous site -- you'll go broke saving money really fast! LOL), you'll find a link where you can download a free shareware program that is a chip resetter. I did it for my Epson printer some weeks ago and it works well.

I've not heard of one that didn't directly access the chip in the cartridge. So does it work through the printer and is able to reset the chips? Free is always good icon_smile.gif

It works by overriding them, from what I understand, but I could be wrong. icon_smile.gif

I kept running the nozzel check to see if it was printing and it only showed color on 4 pages but was still all blotchy looking. I finally got to print out 4 pages with actual pictures, 2 of which I was able to use and now it says I have 20% ink capacity. There is only a few drops of ink left in the side without the lttle sponge thingy. The guy at kopykake said I wasted it on the cleaning, but I didn't clean the printhead! I only did the test patterns. Does anyone have the link to the free program to override the chip in the cartridge?

It isn't working for me either. I can send you the program file, though.
