yesterday I tried fondant for the first time. it was pretty simple to make and can use it almost right away. it tastes really good too.

anyway here are two pictures, I only used half on that cake, so I have another half of the fondant to play around with still =)

Nice job. You said it tastes good? What fondant are you using? I'd use it too if it tastes good.

Have you tried MMF? It tastes good on cakes, in my opinion, if you have buttercream underneath and roll it as a thin layer on top! You can add flavoring to it too.

That looks great!

I have not yet covered a cake in fondant. I've just used it to create things. I am going to have to do a practice to get the hang of it. I keep thinking about using it when I do a new cake, but always chicken out.

Hope mine looks half as good as yours... it looks sooo smooth.

Aw thanks everyone! it was fun to work with, I'll have fun today playing with the rest from the batch I made.

the recipe I got was from someone I know, she printed it up and gave me it lastnight. it is called

Rolled Buttercream Fondant. I am not sure if it has been posted here on CC or not.

it was printed from www.AllRecipes.com rated 4 out of 5 by 42 people.

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract
2 pounds confectioners sugar

here is the link to the website, I have not yet visited it aside from searching for you all.

Thanks for the recipe. One more for me to try. Did you use Crisco for the shortening?

Thanks

I am not sure, it was shortening from my inlaws. to be honest I'm assuming it was from Aldis. sorry I can call and ask tomorrow =)

I'll try it with crisco next time and tell you how it is. I have never tasted store bough fondant, or anyother fondant, but I hear its not very good.

however this I had 2 pieces of cake with =)

That is the same recipe I use. It has a very good taste. The 1st time I made it with the store brand shortening. This time when I made it with Crisco, it seemed greasy. It could have been me.

Yes, I've noticed that the general consensus on this website is that Wilton's is not the best tasting! And I agree!

MMF is rather good! I will try this new recipe as well however!

Thanks Amy, I would really love to know what you used. I am not partial to Crisco so if it was something else I would prefer it. Thanks hon.

oh wow, I guess I will have to try it out with crisco for sure to see if it is more greasy, I dont find mine to be. I'll definitely have my husband call tomorrow and ask what shortening it was. =)

mgsells I did not use any flavoring aside from the vanilla that was added
