gumpaste is a type of sugar paste (like fondant) that is used to decorate cakes..primarily used in making flowers. I've used it to make shoes, flowers, bows, etc

it contains powdered sugar, shortening, egg whites (or meringue powder) and gum tragacanth although you can use Tylose instead of the gum tragacanth to make it.

It dries really hard and you can roll it very thin. It is perfect for making flowers or bows and other decorations.

It might be called sugarpaste in England. Anyway, it what you use to make sugar flowers with. And I know you definitely have it in England as a lot of wedding cakes over there have sugar flowers.

Thank you all. We use Flower paste in england to make flowers which is a pastillage. So i guess that gumpaste is a pastillage like tylo paste. Sugarpaste is i think the same as what you call fondant. I just wasnt sure, im still trying to get to grips with the different terms. Thanks once again.

Yes, you're right. Sugarpaste is fondant and flower paste is what we call gumpaste.
