Has anyone used this before? It looked cool on the Food Network. l am looking for something to make flexible monograms, is this good for that use?
Diane
I just saw it today too. It looks like something I would like to try out. It's really cool how stretchy it gets.

I haven't used it, but it sure does look like fun to work with.
My boss bought one but said he couldnt figure it out. I'll have to find it to try it out, I'm sure he's just making things harder then what they are.
I think i'd like to explore making the sugarvail sheets for cut outs.
I have seen it demo'd in person. Bought to play with but haven't yet. I just bought the powder. Not the whole kit. Don't have that kind of money yet. But I will be using it soon. Check out thier web site it's cool.
Is it easy to work with and can I do monograms with it? I'd love to try it out.
Diane
There is someone on here that uses it a lot. I think Karensue? There was a thread about this a few weeks ago. I am pretty interested in it too.
Yeah I saw it too and was thinking about getting some sometime to try. I've heard of it before, but didn't realize all that it could do until I saw it on the Food Network.
It was on one of their specials called "Treats of the Trade
essert" with Giada as the host. She was at a dessert expo in Las Vegas I think. It was on a few times this weekend, but I did see it before but missed the sugarveil part.
I'm wondering what is in that icing to make it stretchy????
Try their site.... they made an entire wedding gown of Sugarveil.....

I love the SugarVeil system and use it for most of my writing, scroll work and even piping. Check out my daisy birthday cake and baby shower cakes and polar bear cake. You can use the SugarVeil icing, royal icing, buttercream, anything that pipes and can be put in a syringe. It's so easy to use and so much easier on the hands than using bags. You hold it like a pencil and control the flow by covering or uncovering a pressure hole. If you have any other questions, pm me. And by the way, their customer service is excellent. I had to return my compressor because it was too loud and vibrated alot, and they sent me a new one in days.
karensue, did you say awhile back that there was a recipe on here that was supposed to perform like sugerveil? I would really like to get the system, but I wasnt sure because the icing costs so much.
They have really cute decorations as well:

Just do a search for SugarVeil icing and a link will come up in the forums. I haven't tried it yet as it seems I'm always too busy or need to figure something else out. I've learned to quarter the mix recipe and so don't waste too much. I bought two bags when I ordered the system last December and just now opened the second bag.
Karensue, I just looked at your photos and they are wonderful!!! I also have the sugarveil system and have to admit that I haven't used it very often. After seeing how beautiful your cookies and cakes are I'm getting it out of the cupboard and getting busy!! Thanks for the inspiration!!
The wedding cake was just beautiful! Did you do the sugarveil stuff right on the cake or put it on after it dried? How long does it take to dry before you can apply it to the cake?
I put in on after it dried a little bit--enough so that it retained it shape when lifting up. How long to dry depends on a couple of things--the humidity and how thick you're icing is. If it's thinner, it takes longer to dry.
Thanks everyone for the compliments--it's encouraging.

Forgive my ignorance, but did you mean if the icing is thicker it's drying time is longer? ![]()
No, if it's thinner--or maybe wetter is a better word. Thickness will affect drying time, too. If you make your letters more dimensional by going over them more than once.
Thinner as in icing consistency not pattern or lettering consistency. Gotcha.
Does it seem to work well with the icing pen? Is it easy to load and unload and clean? Any flaws?
Sorry to pry you with questions... ![]()
Karensue your cake is gorgeous. So I take it you can just use it like Royal icing but it just dries flexible rather than brittle, is that right? Do you need the whole expensive system or just the mix? Wow, I have to get some now!
Diane
The lady I work for purchased only the bag of mixture and we mix it in the kitchenaid. There are directions on the package. We use ours for monograms and some small detail work, though. It may depend on what all you want to do with it. Definetly neat though! Makes monograms sooo much easier!
