bride only wants it for 50 people, 3 tiers.

i figured just the fact that it involves 3 different icings ups the price. thanks!

The price...that would be difficult...if you could send me the cake to taste, I'm sure I could come up with a price!

Wow - I think that is my dream cake.

Sorry I can't help with the price but I just had to comment on that cake.

that frosting seems like the bettercream ones (wheap cream). That is not expensive, but i think about $5.50 to $6.00 per serving, I live in P.R., depending were are you from.

OMG that cake looks so beautiful and delicious!

Your standard price plus extra for the different icings sounds good (not that I done a wedding cake before...... icon_wink.gif ), but is $25 enough to cover it? Hopefully someone else will have some advice for you, so here's a bump anyway.

It's BEAUTIFUL and looks yummo, I'm wondering if they didn't use one of the impression matts for the design on the side of the cake or a comb wiggled up and down????????????????? Price , don't know. I'm wondering how your going to do a three layer for only 50 people though. Post pictures for us.

It would take forever to do but you probably can get that effect or at least close to it with the back of a spoon. You might be able to use one of the many icing combs they have out now. As to what you would charge, that's probably decadent enough to warrant at least $7 to $8 a serving. At least $300-$400 dollars easy. Good luck & if you have any left-overs, I think there are a few CCer's that will help to get rid of them for you! (I get the leftover strawberries!!! - LOL)

ooh, the comb idea!! i think that's it~

i figured a 4, 6, and 10..it seems that with the first two tiers there isn't as much space as with the 2nd and third tiers. what do you think?

That is a beautiful cake. I think you can make a three tier with a 9", 6" and 4 1/4" square pans, for 50 people. I would use a comb for the sides. And I would charge no less than $5.00 per serving.

The design may be the Martha Stewart Basketweave, what do you think? Pricing, I have no idea. Very pretty cake.

Boricua!!!

Thanks for your help. There are a lot of different elements on this cake.

Here in GA (at least the requests I have been getting) has been for 50 servings or less and three tiers!!

THanks!

How ARE you going to do a 3 tier for 50?! An 8, 6 & 4in will get you that, but it's going to be a mini cake lol! A 10, 8, 6in would be good, but all your needed servings are in the 10in (not including the top tier), but then if they are going to serve this as the dessert (therefore bigger pieces), then this size would be perfect! As for price - I'd charge $4 per serving for the cake, and then $1 each for the strawberries. Good luck!

This is a Publix cake that a friend of mine also did for a wedding last weekend. She cut it down to the three tiers. As is the publix website says it serves 225-250 and is an 18"x14"x10"x7" Maybe that will help in figuring out what you will need.

As far as price per slice... ask yourself some questions...

You already know that the cake as is from Publix serves 225-250 guests. If you make the cake that large 18x14x10x7 and figure $5 per slice that will be $1125.00 at the 225 serving.

Three teir for 50 guests with smaller 8x6x4 layered & stacked of cake sizes at $5 would be $250.00.

Chocolate dipped strawberries & $1.00 each and $5.00 per icing color gets you maybe an additional $30.00...

So far your up to $280.00... give or take

Next figure how much the ingredients will cost. How much time it take to make the cake. Either figure that in your base cost or add it to the bottom line.

Other than that... I would take the picture to Publix or another bakery and ask the bakery department what they would charge for this cake as is and then a smaller version of the same cake.

Pretend you are the mother of the bride or a friend who has been tasked with finding out prices. Unless they know you by name and face... then find another store bakery to ask.

Bottom line... Quote a price that you can live with... this way if the bride wrinkles her nose at the price at least you will know what a bakery will charge and will feel better about the whole thing. Secondly, you can pump your cake and abilities up at the same time.

It is not wise to bash another bakery, but you can find a way to justify your price. If push comes to shove offer free delivery and set up if you charge for that service. Add something for free, but not something that will cost you major $$$$ over all.

A little homework goes a long way...

Just one Gal's opinion.

i quoted her a price and she said her budget was only 150.00 and that publix was charging 165.00 for the cake pictured!!!!

i told her i understood and that my price is higher because my cakes are baked fresh and the icing is made fresh as well not pre-bought.

Did you check with Publix yourself to see if the price she told you is true? That seems pretty cheap.

OK, so her budget for a cake for 50 was $150, even though she knew for $15 more she could get a much larger cake? Hmmm, something doesn't add up. I'd stay firm on your price. That doesn't look like an easy cake to do.

i didnt check for that particular cake..but ive checked out their prices before and they less than $1.00 per serving. she was hesitant to get it from publix because she wasnt sure they could pull off the design and was concerned about taste.
