Okay. I was asked yesterday to do a cake for Friday SUPER late notice but it's for the woman who gave birth to me so I have a hard time telling her no. Anyhoo, it's for a guy where she works that's leaving to return to his home state Texas. I was going to do a cowboy hat but the brim of the hat just isn't dry enough to look the way its supposed to...ugh! So here I am with 4 8" round cakes baked & ready to go for decorating that needs to be done tonight. I can use all or some of the cake but don't have time to bake anything else. ANY SUGGESTIONS??? I'm at my wits end here. icon_cry.gif

Thanks SO much for any ideas you can provide icon_smile.gif

Could you somehow cut and piece them to make the shape of the state of TX? Or maybe piece them to look like the longhorns?

I did a search of "Texas" and the only things that kept coming up were the shape of the state, longhorn cows and the state flag! BUT...I did see an image of a large star with the the word TEXAS underneath it...I guess for the lone star state?

Sorry I wasn't much help. But here's a bump.

I've been thinking and thinking, finally have one idea. One of the big themes here is "Don't Mess With Texas", and you might be able to write that on the cake and finish it off with "when you get home", and decorate with red white and blue and gold stars, oil derricks, boots, bluebonnets (State Flower), etc. HTH Janice

How about that country song "God Bless Texas" (God blessed Texas with his own hand, brought down angels from the promised land. Gave 'em a place where they could dance, if you wanna see heaven, brother, here's you chance.... ooops. Got carried away. I love that song and I'm not from TX!!) I can see the group in my head, but can't for the life of me come up with their name. I just remember it being an upbeat song, like the group that sang it.

I'm from TX and the "Don't Mess with Texas" is perfect. Or you can do a cake that is "Yellow Rose of Texas" themed. Or a shape of a boot.

The state flower is Bluebonnets. I don't think I have ever seen a cake with bluebonnets on top.

Good luck!

Can you carve cakes? I am assuming you were planning on carving the cowboy hat shape out of these cakes, so why not carve a football helmet and decorate it like the Dallas Cowboys? Just use grey icing (with silver lustre dust if you have it) and a blue star. You can use some fonsant to make the face mask.

So you have several rounds you say, so you could do a couple different cakes, I love the yellow rose of Texas idea, but I have another way to go, but its the gross way, be prepared... Texas is full of cows and cow poo ends up in a roundish shape, you could make a "cow-pie" cake! icon_razz.gif

Cow patties! I never would have thought of that! I love it!! You'd think since I'm from Texas, that I would have a wealth of ideas, but I can't think of anything that someone hasn't already suggested.

I like the yellow roses on the cake, keep it simple and don't drive yourself crazy ( I wish I could follow my own advice!)

I have made a cowboy hat on short notice. I make an extra 1/4 sheet cake and split it. Carved the inside cut at an angle and put the brim of the hat so that the sides go up the angled cut and holds it up.

Thank you all for your lovely comments. I was seriously working on this cake from 5pm when I got home from work yesterday until 11:30pm last night. The longest part was waiting for the back of the saddle to dry so that I could put it on the cake without it getting ruined.

I'm finding with cake decorating that I work pretty well under pressure. OH, and I will NEVER take another order when I seriously have a couple hours on a work day to do it.

Well I must admit that your saddle was probably in better taste than my cowpatty idea icon_wink.gif But I will store that one away for another day...Great cake!
