Well, I mostly do cakes for my family and friends and I have a friend whom I had not seen for over a year and finally got in touch with. She asked me to do a birthday cake for Lily, her daugher, for her first birthday. She wasn't going to have a lot of people but wanted a very special cake. I made her a mini two tier cake. An 8" and 6". Since Lily loves rubber ducks, that's what I did. I made a barrel on top of the 8" tier and put the ducks swiming in it. I told her that it was $75 and she gave me $80.
A couple of days later, she e-mailed me and told me that her husband had declared the cake " a work of art". She said that it was a hit and also delicious. I was very relieved and happy. She also said that her husband asked her to send me more money, because $80 was not enough. To my surprise, I got a check in the mail today for $120.00 more. That's almost $10 per serving!!! Wow, I'm out of words and can only give God the glory for providing me the talent and the ability to make others happy through my creations.

It's always nice to see that there are people that appreciate the many hours of labor that go into creating and decorating a cake. I kind of feel bad that she sent all that money, but at the same time it's encouraging to see that they truly appreciate the hard work.

Thanks for all of your kind comments. I have designed most of my cakes and also have been inspired by the many cakes here at CC. By the way, the barrel idea was inspired by "CakesUnleashed". She has a beautiful barrel cake that I absolutely loved and that is how this cake was born.
I have only been decorating cakes for one year and have taught myself everything by buying books, researching on the internet and reading the forums here. I never thought of decorating cakes, though I think I inherited some artistic talent from my mother, that can do just about anything. She is my number one fan! She comes over when I'm decorating a cake and also gives me a lot of input.
I must admit that when it comes to cakes, I'm a little obsessed and definetely a perfectionist. I always strive to do the best and would encourage everyone to pursue their dreams and to keep practicing. It can only get better. I'm actually talking to a business owner tomorrow to see the possibility of using their commercial kitchen to bake some cakes and be able to sell them and do a little advertising.
In the meantime, thanks to all of you and to this wonderful website that has been of great inspiration as well as all the stories that have been shared here.

You have a very rare talent. Your cakes are "works of art" and I'm so happy to hear that you are looking into advertising and setting up shop in a kitchen. I envy you there. You have lots of skill and with cakes like this; I expect we'll see you in some very high profile cake competitions.

that I wouldn't be able to cut it OR eat it I would just keep it on my living room!!! Thank you Nyma. I had a lot of fun making this puertorrican cake. I actually got inspiration for this cake from a puertorrican artist that does very festive paintings about "vejigantes" and carnivals and such. I saw one of his paintings and the colors and theme was of great inspiration. I find myself thinking about cakes 24/7, it's insane!!
I find inspiration in just about anything!
