Hello, I just priced this cake for someone and I was just curious to see how all of you would price it. It is set to serve aprx: 225 ppl. There will also be 2 individual heart cakes on the side to serve the other 75... totaling 300. Just thought I would get your opinions!! Thanks

well, i think that i would charge at least $400 for that cake. some people say i tend to price low tho. it also depends on how much you put into it. if it took forever to decorate (which im sure it did) that's gonna cost more than a quick one.

Most wedding cakes start at a min. of $2 per serving. Since this is 300 servings, a min. of $600 and that's too low for this cake, IMHO. I'm with Karen on this one, $900 would be fair.

That is a beautiful cake, you did a great job on it.

50 cents a slice for a wedding cake??? I don't think so lol I always say I charge $2/slice, but when I use my price matrix, it ends up to about $1.50 and that's cheap even in Southern Indiana. (Chain bakeries charge $1.25 for a bare wedding cake).

$3.50 a serving is a great price. I paid more than that for a cake in Savannah Ga but I live in NC and it was someone who was well known

$0.50 a serving........I can't even conceive it either??? I wouldn't go less than $3.00 a serving. A cake for 300 people.......whoever is paying (if they did any kind of research at all) would think that's a fair if not low price. $900.........make your money Girl!!!

untorted w/ only bc, $2 per slice plus gumpaste flowers (an hourly wage estimate)

$400-$500

Belive me- I just did a wedding cake, one that I thought was basic and not a lot of work/detail. It took me 15 hours to do alone and then about $100 worth of supplies. I thought I was going to be fine charging $200 for it and ended up losing money on the deal. Charge at least $2 per serving!!!

icon_confused.gif I don't think $150.00 would cover the cost of all the supplies. icon_sad.gif You deserve nothing less than $2.50 per serving. That's a beautiful cake with a lot of work going into it. thumbs_up.gif

Your cake is gorgeous first and foremost. If you accept anything less than 700 you would be crazy. I am getting married in Nov, and can tell you that my cake that will feed 150 people will be approximately 550. Depending on your area, I would say anywhere between 700-900 would be quite reasonable!!! And to those who are wondering, like many who have asked me in person....No. I'm not making my own wedding cake. This will be one week where I don't have a cake to make!! Keep us posted on ventures!!!

Since we're on the subject of, "How much would you charge?"...

I've been asked to make a baby shower cake and the customer needs 100 servings. Yep, it's a huge shower! The lady that offered to give the shower to her step DIL had no idea it would be for this many people. I am struggling to charge the min. $2 per serving for this job. That would cost $200 just for cake for a baby shower.

I was thinking that I might make a small nicely decorated cute cake for the serving table and plain sheet cakes for serving. This would help cut down on the cost.

So, what do ya'll think? Have any of you ever done a baby shower cake for this many guests? Please share your ideas and thoughts.

I use a different pricing guideline for sheet cakes than tiered/fondant cakes. I agree with you, I couldnt charge someone 200 dollars for a sheet cake. Sheet cakes require very little time to make, and people dont want to pay top dollar for them (at least not here). I'm doing a baptism cake this coming weekend for 35 dollars for a half sheet (my standard price). I charge 70 for a full sheet for any occaission. As a nice surprise to her, I'm not going to make a regular sheet cake, but an elaborate dress instead.
Your idea of a smaller intricate cake, and larger cakes in the back is defintely a cost saver for the customer, and is almost common place for weddings these days. Good luck, and can't wait to see your cake!!
