I was at Michael's today and found some new letter press sets for stamping stone, but they look ideal for cakes too! They have a couple different sets for $5.99 ($3.59 w/a 40% off coupon!!). The one I got is called "Victorian Style" and has all the letters of the alphabet plus numbers and some punctuation. I took pictures of the package and the letters next to the Wilton script letters that I have so you can see how close they are in size. The font is similar to Wilton script, but I think it has some nice variation. These only come with one of each letter but the way I use them I do not mind that. The company has a website if you want to see the different sets that they offer:

http://www.milestonesproducts.com/MainPages/Accessories/StoneAccessories/StoneStamps.html

Has anyone used these yet? If so, any reason they are not as good as I think they will be?? I was so excited when I found them. The garden design ones with the butterfly look awesome too, I am not sure which sets Michael's had. I just grabbed that one on my way to the register as the store was closing tonight. I just wanted to share this since it seems like a cool product that a lot of us can use.

Very cool, I think I will be getting these! I was at Walmart the other day and picked up an alphabet stamp set that was $1.49 (I think, I just know it was under $2), it was out of foam and in the craft/scrapbooking area of the store. I figure for less than two bucks, it was worth a shot on cakes! We'll see how it goes....when I try it AND it works, I'll post it!

Oh those are so neat! I am NOT impressed with the Wilton cutter set and would like to do something like this instead. What a great price you got, too!

Great find, thanks for the tip. I always wondered why Wilton didn't include numbers with their letter sets. It just doesn't make sense when so many people like to put 3rd or 21st etc. birthday on cakes.

VACakelady - Wilton will probably come out with a numbers set so that you will have to spend more money to buy the numbers!!! icon_surprised.gificon_surprised.gif

Thanks for the great tip! I'm always wandering around Michaels ( coupon in hand) spaced-out,glazed-over eyes, looking for applicable cake or cookie gizmos. I've obviously not been looking well enough!! Thanks to you, Michaels will will notice a "run" on this product and assume that ALOT of people are suddenly stamping stone!! 'icon_eek.gif'

Do you use food coloring with these letter stamps?

I was planning on using the same was as the Wilton letter press sets - just lightly stamp on the cake to leave an impression and then pipe over that to get nice neat letters. I am too chicken to free hand icon_smile.gif

I looked at the website, and they have some with lower case! That is what I have been looking for. If I have to write more than Happy Birthday, or whatever, it always looks like they are being yelled at!!!
I wonder if they will fit into the Wilton letter holder? They look the same size. It would be nice to keep them evenly spaced.
Thanks for the wonderful tip!!! thumbs_up.gif

speaking of the Wilton letter holder, am I the only one that has issues with it? Are you supposed to file the letters to get the nubs off where they were all connected?

selahmycat - the three sets at the top which includes the lowercase set, are bigger. It might be good to have bigger letters but for those I highly doubt they would fit in the Wilton letter press. The smaller ones like the one I got may though.

I didn't notice the size. I was too excited to see the lower case, I guess!!
When I got my Wilton presses, I had to file the nubs off. In fact, I can only use one of the holders, I somehow ended up with 4 of them, because they won't fit! icon_mad.gif

I figured they needed to be filed, just never got around to doing it. I guess I should even though from the sounds of it that still may not work!
