I always have the worst time smoothing out my frosting. I use a meringue bc and it doesn't want to smooth out for me. I don't know if it's the bc or me icon_sad.gif Has anyone ever covered the sides and maybe the tops of a cake with a zigzag .

Sure...I especially like using this technique with a tip 18 on the sides of characters cakes. It cuts the monotony of the stars and is a quick and easy way to finish the cake. icon_smile.gif

Somewhere just yesterday (I'm not sure if it was here or somewhere on the net...sorry) I saw a cake done with zig-zags on the sides...done with a leaf tip. Looked very pretty.

Covering the sides with all zigzag is very traditional in Puerto Rico. If you go to my pics, the white and green transfer cake is covered in all zigzag. I love this technique. Very pretty.

I agree with Cakepro it makes finish character cakes go so much quicker! gives your hand a little rest after all the stars to cover the top.

I've done this style I saw in Martha wedding mag using the 104 tip in a zig zag...took lots of buttercream to do it!:

I've used it a lot on cakes but when I went to look to see them in my pictures you really couldnt tell... it's easy and it makes the cake look pretty cool... I keep thinking that my next cake, hopefully will make one for the March of Dimes contest and use it...but who knows..... we'll see....
