Hey Ya'll~
Did ya'll see the challenge last night (Wed March 28th) on FoodTV? What did everyone think? I LOVED IT!!! I can't remember if it's an old one or not. Does anyone remember? I'd love to be in a competition like that! You never know how a cake will turn out or how well you can work with other people. icon_wink.gif I'm soooo glad foodtv is showing more & more cake stuff! thumbs_up.gif

One of the ladies on the "pink" team did a technique I have never seen or heard about. She used a stencil on the side of the cake & brushed royal icing over it, then pulled the stencil off & walaa! Has anyone on CC ever used that technique before? The camera didn't get a good close up of it but what I saw looked very pretty. It looked just like piping the scroll work on but easier & faster. I wonder what consistency of RI you'd use? I'm gonna try it! thumbs_up.gif

Yes, I saw it, and I loved it too!
I'm glad the Green team won-their cake was beautiful, and they worked together very well. Did you see that technique the one guy did (don't remember what color he was, but it was the kid's bday cake team) where he used a steamer to moisten the fondant so the decorations would stick? I haven't worked with fondant too much, but it looked like a great idea to me.
Oh, and I did love that stenciling the pink team did...I may have to try sometime also icon_biggrin.gif

LOL, the word is actually "Voila!" icon_smile.gif

You can do this with lace and doilies...even paper doilies. Your RI needs to be a medium consistency. It's a beautiful technique, and pretty effortless. icon_smile.gif

Wow, thanks cakepro! Viola is what the technique is called? Cool! I never heard of that before! I think I'll try it on an Easter cake. I guess you have to have a very steady hand to hold the stencils huh? It's very pretty!

bigsisof3kids, yes! That steamer trick was pretty cool too! Didn't it give it a shine too? I wish they would show the cakes a little longer so we can see everything.. especially the mistakes! LOL~

TC, I've done that on buttercream with buttercream. I used a halloween stencil. Just spread it over and pull the stencil up. icon_smile.gif

If I remember right this is an old episode and one of the ladies who won is a member of CC!! We had a long discussion about it and she filled us in on some more of the details of what happened during the taping. I can't remember her name or the name of the thread right now. Maybe it will come to me later.

icon_surprised.gif She is a member here at cakecentral. I remember that thread. She could not tell us who won. She just said we must watch it. I have been searching for the thread but it will not let me look at any of the second pages icon_cry.gif

Yes TC mine is on fondant. You just want to make sure it is a crusting one and don't press to hard to hold it in place. I haven't tried it on the side of a cake, so I can see how fondant would be easier for that since you have to press the stencil into a curve, but you can try it and let us know. icon_smile.gif
