Why Isn't My Bc Crusting?!!

i MADE BC ICING JUST LIKE I always do...
1c crisco
1c butter
pwdr sugar
vanilla
butter fl
almond fl
milk

it wont crust!! why not?

colored icing purple...great color but it just doesnt want to crust so I cn smooth it with the Viva towel.....any one?

Smooth it with a viva towel? What?
Maybe you added too much coloring and its runny?

try adding meringue powder to your recipie (like the wilton recepie)

What quantities are you using?

I make my buttercream without meringue powder and it crust over beautifully all the time.

I did everything the same as usual....the only diff is I colored it purple.

It seems to have crusted on the beaters...maybe it is just taking longer because of th humidity?

You could try a few minutes (not too long) in the fridge and see if that speeds up the crusting.

ok...i guess its the humidity
closed up the house, turned the air down to 70 and 30 min later its normal.

Note to self...dont do cakes on humid days

Thats exactly what i was going to say, get the AC on, i had the same problem saturday in N TX. the AC fixed it real quick.
