I am so happy right now. My son who is in 3rd grade found out today that he passed his TAKS test. Im not sure about other states but here in Texas 3rd graders have to pass the reading TAKS or they dont get to go to 4th grade. They practice all year long and he didnt pass any of the practice tests. HE has ADHD and has problems sitting still for a whole day working on the same thing. After alot of hard wrok from him and his teacher and long study nights for us at home he passed!!!!!!!!! HIs teacher let him call me today and tell me. I started to cry, and then wen out to the store and got him some balloons and a few little presents. Just wanted to share my great news!!!

lets see i am about 2 hours south east of you. HAve you ever heard of tyler?? i am 20 minutes from there.

I really hate those test beacuse you can make straight A's all year and not do well on those kinds of test and you will fail for the year. I dont think its fair to put so much preasure onthe kids that early. Maybe im being a baby because my kids have to go through it. But 3rd grade seems a little early to me.

give that boy a hug and a kiss. What an accomplishment. So proud of him.

Testing is soooo stressful and by no means a measure of the quality of the childs abilities. I hate those buggers. icon_lol.gif

I don't think its fair either. It like the government exams that we have to take for graduation. They are worth 40% of our final grade. I have known people who were amazing at school and then totally bomb the exam and not complete that course. It's hard enough when your in grade 12, I can't even imagine putting that pressure on a grade 3 child. Its just elementery school, let them be kids. On a lighter note, big congratulations to your boy. I can see why you are so pround of it!!!

yes the testing does start way to early. now that the reading one is over time to egt ready for the math one. Still stressful but if he doesnt pass the test (im sure he will) he still goes to 4th grade. its not as important to be able to add as it is to read. He start tutorials after school after spring break which is next week. I am just happy that the reading one is over with.

congrats that is good news. My DD just took the FCAT which is the one for Florida. She is in 11th and they need to pass it in order to get a diploma. They take the test in 3rd, 8th, and 10th. She also is add and has a learning disability so she gets some help but not much. We are hoping that she passed it this time. She only has 2 more times to take it or no diploma

well susanmm i finally got my sons results back... on the test a perfect score is a 1593 and to pass you have to make a 2100. well my son made a 2400. that put him in the above average category!!!! I am so excited!! he has a great teacher and she put a lot of time into helping him so we are going to have her and her DH over for bar-b-q and i am going to bake her a cake. thanks so much for letting me brag some on my kid. i am just so proud of him.
