I think you're asking why can't you use powdered sugar to dust the area you're rolling out?

You can, but cornstarch works better. You only need a little bit.

Hope this helps. icon_smile.gif

I have found that Crisco works WAY better and it doesn't leave any dust on your MMF. Just rub a little on the surface and on your hands and on your rolling pin.

Only problem with using crisco is that it makes the roller too slippery. And if your worried about having powder on your fondant, just use a big puffy "blush" brush to whisk it away. *Poof* it's gone! I do this. This is especially important if you are placing other fondant items on your cake.

I like the cornstarch method. It is not sticky and it brushes right away. And it is alot easier to clean up than sugar. Plus I am very careful with how much of my powdered sugar that I use...I am always running out at the most inconvenient times!!

Thanks ! Yes, I am talking about to roll out the fondant. I have tried it with shortening (found it greasy..yuck!) I have tried it with powdered sugar (kitchen covered in SUGAR). I just wondered about the cornstarch BEFORE I tried it. icon_biggrin.gif
