What's happening with this site?? I was told my Valentine's Day cake picture was lost because of a ''crash'' during the contest.
NOW this site ihas been running ''SUPER SLOW'' again or the pages just won't load. I run fiber optics on my computer and every other site I go to, I just click and I'm there & click I'm looking through their pages. Even ebay which is one very busy, busy site!!! No hang ups or stalls!! I hope this site will get back on track again SOON. It's just not fun when you have to sit & twiddle your thumbs waiting and waiting and waiting for a page to come up if it even does.

I love this site. It's fun to see all the cakes everyone submits. I've learned a lot here because of everyone being so helpful. I enjoy commenting on the cakes that everyone has worked so hard on. I love to have my cakes commented on too. It makes me feel good to have members take the time to say things about them. BUT, it's hard to do any commenting when you can't get the pages to load!!!!!!!!

PLEASE GET THIS SITE UP AND RUNNING CORRECTLY AGAIN so we can all enjoy the ''Forums'' & pictures and everything else offered here!!!

Sorry so long, but this is driving me ''nuts''!!!!!!!!![/b]

Sure.. cut us a check for $100,000 and we will install an entire room full of servers and CC will run as fast as ebay icon_biggrin.gif

A site like ebay is owned by a large corporation with billions of dollars to provide anything they need.

We are a small operation of 2 admins, not charging anything, or selling advertising.

So if you want more hardware... well you get the picture....We are doing what we can, but we can't just run out and add another server everytime things slow down, its going to take significants donations each month to afford it.

Last month donations covered half of the current hardware costs. That is fantastically generous of the CC community, but its not enoughfor us to expand.

So we will get there, but it will require PATIENCE from the community, its not something that can be solved overnight.

We are working on re-coding the website to be more efficient, but that is a long process. Rebuilding the entire framework that CC is built on is a 6-12 month project, and that assumes minimal distractions from community drama.

Heath - I'm a newbie, so my words won't count as much, but since I found this website I have learned so much. While it is slow at times, I either wait, or come back later (usually in the middle of the night - since I'm a night owl). But just wanted to say thanks for the site, and I understand how much of your time it takes to keep this site running, I promise to be patient - wish i had an extra 100grand to give you. LOL
i appreciate all your hard work!

I have problems sometimes with the pages loading but I think it could be because of the time difference, I presume that you are doing maintenance when most of you are asleep but it is my daytime so I just find something else to do for a while and then try again. Hey Presto you are there. This site is just great and I have learnt so much. Keep up the good work. Would love to give you lots of money but perhaps if I win Lotto!

I just have to say, I work for a very large company with rooms full of IT people working nearly around the clock and they can't keep our networks up and running reliably.
Great big giant thumbs up thumbs_up.gif to Heath and Jackie for keeping this site running as well as they do!! I know almost zilch about computers, but I know it ain't easy.

I think the post was rather harsh seeing as this site is free to everyone who joins. Even places like eBay charge a fee for every listing and every transaction made. I would think if they charged everyone here they could provide the same quick site as eBay.

I think this site is WONDERFUL and while I too don't like the slow times or times I click on to find the site down I have no problems waiting because I know everything that can be done is being done.

So take a chill pill, make a donation and be thankful for what you have.

Oh come on people.

Yes sometimes the site is slow but then come back later.
This site is FREE. The people responsible for the up-keep of the site do work very hard to keep it going.
Stop being cheeky and just appreciate what we have!!!!!

Maybe it was just the last straw when I sent this off as it can really get to you at times. I can assure you that I didn't intend it to be so harsh. I just kept on writing. I need to revert back to when I got upset at something to write it on paper and then toss it away. I got it off my chest and didn't hurt anyone with my spouting.

So sorry Heath, for spouting off like that and upsetting you so much. I know you & Jackie do all you can and I greatly appreciate it. If I had that kind of money, I would be more than happy to give it you for this site.

Sorry to all the rest of you too.

I do love this site and I too learned a lot from it. I've also tried to help others with things I've learned from here or elsewhere.
I try to comment on cakes because I know it's not much fun having your hard work go by the wayside.

I did make a donation, and I'm sure not the size of those who can afford a lot, but I gave what I could.

Chill out? Take a nap?? Yeah, next time I think I will.

AGAIN my most sincere and heartfelt apologies
Joyce

Oh no worries, I wasn't upset. I just think sometimes we need to share some info so that members can understand why the site gets slow sometimes.

Glad I didn't upsetyou, it seemed like I did for which I am truthfully very sorry.

That would be nice as I haven't a clue what it takes to run a site. I just sit down and go!!! Like driving, I get in, sit down, and drive!! I'm sure others would appreciate having updates on what is happening at one of the BEST SITES.

Thanks again for a great site!!

I count the number of times the site runs perfectly in comparison to the times it doesn't run so smoothly. I usually will just leave it for a couple of hours when it's slow and then come back on; this way I don't get frustrated. thumbs_up.gif I think you were just frustrated, as I have been before, so no worries; I didn't think your post was negative. thumbs_up.gif

If Heath & Jackie spend their time sending out updates of what they are doing then they wouldn't have time to keep up with what needs to be done. I agree it is frustrating at times but as everyone else has already said "it's a free site" and I for one am very grateful for everything that Heath & Jackie do to keep it up and running.

Is there anyone else here that would spend the time, effort, and money they do for people they don't even know?

LOL That's really funny because I too would write sheets about mine too!!!
I think it's the best way to go. Saves a lot of unwanted, unneeded and really unmeant hurts & grief. And I can tell you, after this nasty mess I am returning to the notes!!!

Thanks so much and enjoy your day/night too!!
I'm on my way to bed. I'm up later than usual.

The problems can be frustrating only because this site is so loved! You don't worry or care if a site you don't like is slow or having problems. I just remind myself this is free and I would probably wither up, sucking my thumb in a corner from withdrawls if it was down for more than an hour! Keep up the good work, and if you remember user's only get frustrated when it's going slow because the site is 'highly addictive'! icon_biggrin.gif

This is what Heath said,
"Oh no worries, I wasn't upset. I just think sometimes we need to share some info so that members can understand why the site gets slow sometimes."
I only agreed to what he said that it would be nice to let us know. I did not ask for that nor would I ever expect it.
I know they spend most of their time running this site and I greatly appreciate all they do as much as you do!

I had to say deep breaths. Come back later.... it's not gone for good no one is that mean....lol.... And what do you know a few hours later it was! thumbs_up.gif

There is a website where I've been visiting for over 5 years now that is a book fanclub, basically. It's a free site but they do sell "premie" memberships to the site..They're $15 for the year but people get to do more with their membership. The place has grown exponentially since I first went there.

There have been a few huge crashes when the servers have gone down and believe me, a few glitches here are nothing compared to the several weeks that my other site (read addiction) went down a couple times. It's pretty bad. The webmaster had to invest in bigger servers each time. He is so dedicated to it though. I'm just thankful that he hasn't tired of it and just gotten rid of the site altogether.

We have resorted to having an aim chatroom for when the site goes down. Maybe we could do something similar here if that ever happens? *crosses fingers* (hope not) but it does help to not go completely crazy when you can't get on the siteicon_smile.gif

This is a really nicely put together site and I'm very glad to have recently found it. Thank you Heath and whoever else runs this siteicon_biggrin.gif

For jackie and Heath thumbs_up.gif ! I just love this site and that fact that it is FREE....well enough said! When people ask me how I learned I tell them I learned the most here on cc! It is definitely the best cake site out there. You are doing a great job and I am really appreciative. Hey, if the site is down, I actually can get some work done! Maybe it is someone's way of telling me I need to get off the computer!
