Not Enough $ For A Kitchenaid/cake Toys? I Have An Idea....

I've shared this idea with one other CC member, but I've been thinking about how many others out there have mentioned that they can't afford a kitchenaid or new cake toys. Keep in mind this is not an immediate fix, it may take a few months but it's worth it. LOL, before I hear any groans about not being able to save money, hear me out. I've seen this work for a lot of people for a lot of different items. Here's the idea:
1) Get yourself a large jar or plastic tub and label it with the name and even a printed picture of whatever it is you desire at the moment. Be specific. Being too general will cause you to lose interest quickly. Also, place the jar where you will see it at least 2-3 times a day.
2) Raid all of the cars, your purse, the laundry room, and couch cushions for all the change and money you can find. You'd be surprised at how much you'll find. I know of a couple that found $100 just in their couch cushions alone.
Put what you find in your jar. Sounds simple, but deny the urge to buy anything with the change.
3) Each time you purchase something with cash, put the loose change in your jar. This adds up extremely quickly.
4)Have a garage sale and put all of the earnings in your jar. This will serve two purposes;1- it will help clear out some clutter & 2-It will get you, step by step, closer to your new kitchenaid or the latest cake toy you're desiring.
5)Post your progress on CC. Let us all celebrate with you! ![]()
*bump*
Whatever amount, no matter how small, you find initially, please post it here.
This really is an excellent idea. My daughter and I want to go back to Las Vegas. We have been saving our change since Christmas for our trip. We already have over $300 in change in just a few months. It is really surprising how quickly it adds up.
Change really does add up fast. I save all of my change and all of my $1.00 bills.
I save all my change and have done so for years. I now am saving it to take on the Cake Cruise and then I will start to save again for the Cake Club next year. It does add up.
I used to leave change I saw on the ground but not any more. Those pennies add up to dollars and those dollars add up to fun things!
we do this with our "party money" every year we have a party out our lakehouse with all our friends and we save all our change throughout the year and so far each summer when we turn in the money we have had over $300, now mind you this is for a whole year. we've dipped into it a few times, 50 cents to the kids to run up to the local store for a candy bar or soda etc but we do pretty good.
this years money is going towards all the baby stuff we need since we got rid of all our stuff and then found out we were pregnant. all our friend are kicking in and throwing us a party this year lol
it's a great idea, i like the idea of putting a picture on the container, it would push me to save more more more lol
Ohh.... I don't really want anything but this sounds like fun. I'm sure I'll find something I want. Ideas are already popping in my head
Bigger professional mixer
Maybe i'll just save for my business.
great idea. My hubby and I do this with our spare change to make our twice yearly trip to Cripple Creek ( gambling town in colorado) . Last summer we had $300 in change to use for gambling and he ended up winning $1800 woohoooooo.
Love your idea, that's how I bought myself my Kitchen Aid. I cleaned out all of my backpacks and purses, lots of spare change in those. I also didn't go to Starbucks for almost three months, that alone added up very quickly! In less than 3 months I had my brand new mixer!
Good for you Neni! I'm so glad to hear that so many people already use this method of saving! Keep the posts coming! This could be something fun for all of us to do together. I just bought a kitchenaid, but I do need to save for a large dog kennel to put outside for the new puppy I just adopted that is probably going to end up weighing 60lbs, LOL.
I found this out quite by accident. After constantly finding money in the dryer--which usually ended up on top of the dryer. I decided to put an empty coffee can in the laundry room and put all that change in it. My philosophy about money found in the dryer (finders keeprs--loser weepers) When it reached the top I took it to the bank-- I quess it might have around $25.00 in change--well the teller comes back and says the total was $96.00. What a fun surprise. Now I keep little jars all around the house. I'll probably use mine for vacation!
here change add quickly since our 1$ and 2$ are not in paper anymore... I'll do that too, now I have to find something to use it for ......
I know!!! I'm currently losing weight, I'll need a new wardrobe!!!!! I'll use the money when I've reached my goal weight, and see how much I have then....
Great thread!!!
I do this with my Euros and Swiss Francs coins. The Swiss coins go up to 5francs, which is roughly the equivilant of 5 can dollars. I can easily have 20 extra euro and 30 extra francs and not realize it. Those are my offical partying and clothing funds. But if truth be told I tend to spend a lot more than is in the jar on clothing....
hmmm, I think instead of that dog kennel right now, I'll count up the change I have for an extra kitchenaid bowl.
Which I still haven't gotten to use because I've been sick ![]()

Hi everybody! It's raining cats and dogs here in Louisiana! LOL. I noticed that there were quite a few people online and just wanted to bump the thread. If I annoy anybody, I apologize. It's just an idea I'm really excited about and want to share with everyone on CC. I learned about this type of saving when I coordinated a financial class at my church.
