Wow! That is really pretty! I am also working on a cake with MMF this week. I will post mine, too, so that everyone can help me critique it. Looks good!

i made mmf for the first time this past weekend for my daughter's 14th birthday. it was great, but the only problem i had was the next day. i made the cake the day before and on the next day when my daughter cut it, it was a bit hard. not so hard like royal icing, but stiff. my family loved it the day i made it, but after it gets stiff it's not as good anymore.
has anyone had this problem with mmf the day after?

Diane, I was asking that same question in another post. I hope that this isn't the case since I am using MMF on the cake I am doing for Thursday. That would just kill me! Maybe I should put it on the day of the party and try to decorate right then. The only problem I was having is that I am working until 4pm on Thursday and the party is at 7pm!! Now I am really starting to feel ill!! icon_rolleyes.gif

That is a nice looking rose!!
I made my daughter a cake for her birthday, very small square box style. Half of it was left so I covered it with a piece of foil, loosely, and the next day the mm fondant was so soft I was very surprised. So I'm wondering if you cover your cake it would soften up the fondant, but not too soft that it droops off the cake?

Thanks for the idea, jscakes! I hope that it works out like that. Otherwise I may be in a jam. But I will finish decorating tonight to drop off tomorrow. So I will try the foil thing on an extra piece of MMF today to see if it keeps for the morning. Wish me luck!

The rose is very beautiful!!! As suggested, make the edges thinner and let it sit for a little bit, like maybe a minute, just test it, and then with your fingers, taper (curve) the petals on the ends a bit.

Hi greencargirl! Your mmf rose is very elegant and pretty. I agree with jscakes about coving the fondant with a piece of foil, maybe the rose would get a little stiffer. What about merigue powder, sugar powder. I have not use fondant yet, but I am only going by what other baker friends are saying. I make my roses using buttercream icing and they come out pretty good as I was told, but you know as a baker, I underestaimate my work in the kitchen. icon_smile.gif

I haven't tried the MMF yet - I use regular fondant and with that - if you leave the rose out for 24 hrs - it will harden - not like gumpaste (rock hard) but it'll harden pretty good. Regarding the edges of your petals - they make what's called a "ball" tool you use when doing flowers - it's a hand tool specifically designed for flowers and lace work and you just roll it over the edges on the petals and it thins it out nicely to look like real rose petals. Hope this helps. icon_smile.gif
