How do I make fondant glue? I made my first fondant figure and it is HORRIBLE!! For one, I made him too big. I made a snowboarder and I don't know how to put him on the cake without him falling over. If anyone knows, please help me! TIA!

try sticking some toothpicks through him into the cake. That might work. For glue I sometimes use melted chocolate or almond extract or just water.

whenever I make figures........especially larger ones I make a skeleton out of wire and form the fondant over the wire and usually leave another couple of inches of wire extra to stick out the bottoms of their feet.....that's what I did with the soccer girl.....she was over 6" tall and pretty heavy ....but the couple inches of wire out of her feet was enought to keep her stable on the cake!!

In the gumpaste/fondant class you use 1/4 t. of gumpaste w/ about 1 T of water. Break up the gumpaste in tiny pieces & shake it all together or let it set till the gumpaste is dissolved. Keep it in a tightly sealed bottle. I use a small jelly jar for mine. Or you could just use some royal icing~

For fondant glue or gumpaste glue (which I think is stronger), just take little piece of the fondant and put them in a little jar or bowl and add a bit of water and let it sit for a bit. The fondant or gumpaste will start to dissolve and create a glue.

Try royal icing as a glue of the figure is really large and the pieces are laready dry--that seems to work the best.

Oh I just re-read your post. I don't know if that glue will be enough. I used dowels on my teapot. I stuck it through the spout. It worked just fine until I traveled with the cake. I think the first bump I hit the spout fell some. icon_sad.gif Good Luck!!

I attach all my characters on my cakes with royal icing and I complete the cakes 1 or 2 days before transporting to make sure it has set properly. My wedding cake with all the characters on it travelled a few hundred miles to get to Birmingham from outside Edinburgh and all the way back and never came to any harm. It is still in one piece today! thumbs_up.gif
