Hello,

What are the best sifters for powdered sugar? Mine takes FOREVER and may hand isn't the same for days. Is this just the way it is or is there a better way.

I just use a medium sized metal screen sieve and shake!

My hands are what they were either, so I whizz it in my food processor.

You can put it in a food processor! That would be a real time saver.

The sieve would work too. Does this method get all of the little lumps out?

One more question. Do you measure the sugar before or after you sift?
Yuo would think I would know this by now, but I hsve been skipping the sifting step icon_redface.gif

I was told you really don't have to sift unless you see lumps in your powdered sugar...Don't know how true it is but I never sift

Check your recipe... if it says sifted, then measure AFTER... if it doesn't, then measure BEFORE!

I very rarely sift mine but when I do I just use a plastic fine sieve I got at the dollar store

I saw Martha using a sieve that was the size of a cake pan. Dump in flour use your hand or a spoon to swirl the flour around and voila! Sifted flour. Gotta get one of those things.

I bought the battery operated sifter. Doesn't work worth tapedshut.gif skwat. Plugs up when you put more than a few tablespoons in. What a joke and a waste of money. thumbsdown.gif

I never sift anymore, instead I pour my bag of powdered sugar into a tall Tupperware cannister and I use a whisk to whisk out the lumps. It is 100 times faster and I have never had a problem with lumps.

I think it was Martha that I got this idea from.

I rarely ever whisk powdered sugar for icing (mostly cocoa, since it likes to lump up), but my vote is for a spoon and a sieve. I don't like washing my food processor (it's a 14-cup Cuisinart...takes up the whole top rack of the dishwasher...and I deplore hand washing dishes), and the little hand-crank sifters kill my hand.

If you've gotta sift something, you can't get the job done any easier and faster than a sieve.

I have to admit that I do sift atleast once, depending on the icing recipe I'm using..... if you are going to buy a sifter, make sure it is one with more than two arms inside. I got one at Smart and Final with four and it works fantastically!

I have the battery operated and have only one problem...eats up batteries fast icon_cry.gif .

Did you try unscrewing your basket a little, I had to do that to mine?

Anyone know where I can purchase the electric one...tired of replacing batteries? icon_cry.gif
