I'm doing a mock-up of a hatbox cake. Just trying to get a ballpark idea of how the final cake might look. Would appreciate your feedback on what is right or wrong with this design. I'm looking just at the flower arrangement. To much, to little, just right? Appreciate your comments.

I like the flowers, but what is that sticking out of the side? Is that part of the widow sill or what?

I might move the large flower off to the side, so you can see that there is a lid. The colors and amount of flowers look great, though!

The thing sticking out is actually a flower stalk. It looks a little more in proportion in person. Looks stupid in the picture. Not sure it even belongs on the cake.

I think moving the big flower off to the side might look better too. Great suggestion.

The large flower covers your open space. You want the focus to be that open area with the flowers spilling from it.

looks pretty...i might make the bottom layer maybe 2 inches larger so there is a bigger difference. i'm just picturing that by the time you add icing it may blend too much. love the flowers

Well other than that, I think it looks fine. I looks like the flowers are spilling out of the box, and I assume that is the looks you want with a hatbox.

Hi,
The cake is beautiful. My only concern would be to move the large flower to the bottom. The arrangement appears to be a bit "heavy" but colors and concept are really pretty.

Ditto on the large flower. I'd go with something smaller~ Other then that it's beautiful!

if you keep the flowers as they are coming out of the "box" then I would remove the cascade..

I really appreciate all of the comments.

Yea, I thought a lot about removing the cascade. This cake is going to have designs on the sides, as well as some other things. Will take off the cascade and see how that looks.

Will probably also take a row of petals of the pink peony to make it smaller. Good think I still have a couple of weeks to play with this.

Thanks again.

I agree about moving the big flower a bit, it is a great looking cake but I had no idea it was a hat box at first glance. The only thing i see is that your eye is drawn and stays at that big flower.

Cant wait to see the finished product..i know it will be great!
