"sugar Rush"cake Show Had Amazing Ideas

I watched the last episode and was very pleased with the segments ( the host's recipe was out of placed compared to what others were doing ). I'm gonna try to make those beautiful fruit pots for a party I'm hosting at my house. And those strawberries were out of this world. Did anyone try chocolate strawberries, I would love to see some pics and other people's take on that. But la piece de resistance was that multi-tiered white chocolate covered strawberries and what a cleaver idea to pipe scrolls, that would look awsome on cake balls.
I saw that last night, and agree that the host's recipe didn't really fit the theme of the program!
I happened to catch a Holiday Top 5 episode on Friday about gifts that you can have delivered, and there was a company there that did the fruit baskets also. They have the chocolate strawberries, and also Granny Smith apple wedges coated in chocolate. I think I'm going to have to try that, LOL!
There are some great pictures on their website, thought you might enjoy looking at them:

Laura.
How do they keep the fruit fresh until delivered and eaten?
I agree, the host's recipe is way too far out... I guess it's because he cannot do something as elaborate as those things we see on that show..he can bake, but he's not a pastry Chef. He's alright for simple baking. ![]()
That show has to be the best one the Food Network's had in a long time! Finally one that's just for us bakers!! Did anyone see the one with Mike McGarry? The nutcraker was insane!! We have a few of those fruit basket places around here. I think they put together and deliver on the same day. I know one place that makes them a couple of days ahead of time and just keeps them in the fridge. Haven't tried it (eaten one) but I would like to make one! They're so cute!
heavenlycakes,
The guy you are thinking of is Mike McCarey. His website is http://www.mikesamazingcakes.com/. I have loved his work since the first time I saw him compete against Colette Peters. He definitely is amazing.
I tivo the show that way I can skip over the host making his recipes. He probably does that because he is coming out with a book with recipes. I looked at his bakery website and they specialize more in taste instead of looks. Here it is http://cakelove.com/. They do not use vegetable shortening or vegetable oil. No wonder it taste so good. Of course butter taste better than shortening. I thought it was interesting that they will only do 6", 9", 12" tiered cake for taste reasons.
My sister ordered my mom one of the fruit basket things for Mothers Day last year. She just raved about how great it was and that everything tasted so fresh! She had it sent to her at work and my mom said it was so good she almost didn't share !! LOL. She lives in Indiana. Not sure where she ordered it from though. I saw pictures and it was really cute!
Hey talmas - I know, I'm such a dork, that's what I meant to write. I love his cakes!! I think I love even more that he used chocolate clay for almost everything. He made that Nutcracker look so easy.... talent usually does that!
Once again - Best Show EVER!! I've even put Martha aside to watch his show! That MUST be great! ![]()
i love that show! i also really like recipe for success!!!! actually that is where the host warren brown got "discovered" his business was on there. anyway it shows struggeling new businesses and all the struggles of growing pains and expenses, and shows you what it takes for a business to really get going...and if they succeded or not.
another good show on the food network is something a bout a bash, where they show you the behind the scenes to hot parties and weddings and what it takes to cater it.
i need to kick kids off the tv and watch my food network!
