Can anyone recommend a coffee maker that doesn't have to be replaced in less than a year?
I have tried Black and Decker, Proctor Silex. The Hamilton Beach works well, but the ones I have seen, the burner only stays on for around a half hour or so and I want one that doesn't shut off.
The Brauns hold up for just past when the warranty is up and the pump always goes on them, or the burner.
We seem to always be replacing these coffeemakers, this year I have gone through three of them. Normally we have them for a year and that is it so I started to buy the cheap ones. But if I could find one that would last, I would pay more. Help!

Bunn's!

My parents have had their's for years. They cost more but are better made and last longer. The one we have has a place that holds and heats water. So when you add your water, it pushs out the hot water and you have your coffee in around 3 minutes. They also don't have the timer on the hot plate and stay on as long you don't turn it off.

We too were always replacing until we got this last one.

Hi Squirrelly,

My next coffeemake will be from kitchen aid. There products are always dependable and long lasting...IMO.

Seems to me that the commercial ones in restaurants are Bunn's, aren't they? Yes, I just saw the Kitchen Aid for the first time last week, it sure looks good. I was debating getting a Tim Horton's coffee maker, the coffee chain sells one but it is big bucks too, but likely less than the Bunn's or Kitchen Aid. I will go check those out!
Thanks everyone!
Hugs to all!

I think when we got our Bunn (at Target) it was around $80, but that was a couple of years ago. Not sure if they have gone now or not. I look at it like mixers. I'd rather spend more money and get something that is going to last than spend small amounts over and over on ones that keep breaking. icon_smile.gif

Exactly! Haha, hhmn, bet they are around $200 here, it will be interesting to see. I bet I will have to go to a restaurant supply store to check them out.
I do have a tendancy to try to buy the best I can afford, but I got disappointed in some of the other better makes and then switched to the cheapies. But the better makes weren't of the quality of this one or the Kitchen Aid. Haha, when you think there are only the two of us now and we are burning them out that quickly, it makes you wonder!

Bunn coffe makers in our area (Western New York) are $99 in the stores now. I just saw one the other day. We have had ours for about 5 years now. Our last one lasted about 10 yrs, and we are tough on them.

Squirrelly: What the heck are you doing to those coffeemakers icon_surprised.gificon_lol.gificon_surprised.gif

Have you tried a Krups?

The coffee makers reviews on Amazon were so bad that we're sticking with the cheapies. The under $20 coffee makers last fine.

OT: We sampled the coffee made by the super expensive coffee machine. The name escapes me right now. You know the $300 coffee maker? You get this little cup of coffee that is good, but a little on the weak side. Cool toy, but I'm really happy with my Mr. Coffee that makes a jug of Folgers in 3min.

I am not familiar with the Krups name. Heehee, what are we doing to them, nothing. I am faithful about running the vinegar solution through to clean them out regularly. Normally we get a year out of them, this year we went through 3, last year two. In fact, we had taken to having a spare one on hand. Yet I have an electric percolator that is over 25 years old, go figure.

bubblezmom: I agree with you...some of the expensive ones are all show. I have a $10 coffeemaker at home and I replace it about once a year. Its alot cheaper that way.

I have found the only coffeemakers that really last are the ones used for restaurants and coffeeshops. I have one at my shop that has lasted me for 7 years +. They cost about $1200 - $1500 hough so unless you go through 5 airpots a day I don't think it would be worth it. You'd have to charge your friends and family $1 a cup when they came over for coffee icon_lol.gif

I have got to put my 2 cents in here LOL..

My dad bought a $100 coffeemaker less than a year ago, a Cuisineart..
Well, I was just back visiting, and do you know how long I had to wait for a 6-cup pot of coffee? An hour and a half!!!!! By this time I'm shriveling as I'm addicted indefintely to coffee. I had to deal with that for 2.5 months, unless I wanted instant, and NO THANKS! I was glad to get back to my 10 dollar coffee maker here in California.

Here is the link to my coffeemaker. Take it from an addict, I have had this coffeemaker for 5 years now. It was TEN dollars..ten.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006IV0E/?tag=cakecentral-20

It may not be a "popular" brand..but my God I've made coffee every single morning and afternoon for 5 years and have never ONCE had to replace or fix anything. It brews in 2 and a half minutes for 6 cups, 4 minutes for 10. Its wonderful and I LOVE IT!!!

We went through two Cuisinart Grind n' Brews in three years...not a good track record for a $120 coffee pot. I don't think having a grinder in such a humid environment is a good idea, so when I purchased a new coffeemaker, I went for the stainless steel Cuisinart Brew Central 12-cup programmable model. We love it, and make at least one pot of coffee in it per day...on most days we make two pots. I have no complaints. I also got the sweet little matching Cuisinart Bean Grinder to go with it. I was tired of my husband using my other grinder for spices and not cleaning it out. There's a reason you don't see "Cumin Spiced Coffee" on the market. icon_biggrin.gif

I see the new Grind n' Brew models have the grinder on the outside of the unit.

My family all has cheap coffee makers and they are all 3-10yrs old. We have Mr Coffee and Proctor-Silex. I love convienence, but turning on the coffee maker in the morning literally takes just a second. My dh is dying for a programmable model. I think he just wants the digital display.

We've had the Brew Central for maybe two years now, and if I had to wait more than 15 minutes for coffee, I'd be sending flaming missives to Cuisinart. LOL Something is definitely wrong with your dad's unit.

They have an unconditional 3 year warranty on their coffeemakers. No questions asked, no receipt needed, no warranty card needed to be mailed in. All you have to do is call them, give them the model & serial number from the unit, get a return number, and send it in and they'll send you a replacement.

I thought it might be that they have well water..without a softener in it, but they relace the filter once a month! I'll have to make sure she knows about that warranty! Thanks for that info!!

About the flaming missiles..I came dangerously close. An hour and a half Sherri, and hour and a half! I'm used to my coffee no later than 10 minutes after initial wake up. I was a mess and quite irritable LOL..I think thats why my posts dwindled on CC while I was out-of-town..poor coffee timing=poor Robyn mood.

I like anything Cuisinart! Their appliances are a bit more expensive but the quality is excellent!! As a matter of fact I told hubby to buy me the Toaster/convection oven for Christmas...it is $199.99 but it heats up to 500 F and you can bake meats pies, fries, chicken nuggets etc....and not have to turn on your big oven. thumbs_up.gif

I couldn't imagine waiting that long for coffee. That, to me, would be nothing short of torture. Sounds like it was torturous to you too!

The wheels in my brain were turning awhile ago while I was sipping my 5th cup of chocolate coffee icon_biggrin.gif and I thought about asking you if they changed the water filter or ran vinegar through it every now and then. Hard water is so hard on coffeemakers!

Heehee, well I don't mind waiting, as long as eventually they work, haha! We used to buy a Proctor Silex and it would last about 1 year, but this 2-3 months thing lately isn't worth it. The second Black and Decker was the worse of the lot, didn't have it a month even. And I do not have hard water, and run vinegar through it all the time.
I have two coffee grinders and I don't care about setting a clock for automatic timing, I just want one that works, and the burner stays on longer than a half hour or so. I don't drink my coffee that fast, haha! Interesting about the Cuisinart warranty, it wasn't always three years on everything, but that is a definite plus! That was why I bought Black and Decker appliances, because they had 2 year warrantys at one time. Trouble was, it would cost me as much in shipping and handling to get it sent to repair as buying a new one.

With as high a rate of failure of appliances that you have written about lately, maybe the problem doesn't lie within the appliances themselves but perhaps in the electrical system of your house or something. It seems like an extremely strange high rate of applicance failure, from what you write. icon_confused.gif

Haha, well it does seem that way, but the mixers were not at this house, just the coffeemakers and those are the only appliances I am having an issue with. Actually my kitchen wiring was updated a couple of years ago. I use the same two outlets for my Kitchen Aid, coffee grinder, electric knife and all other kitchen small appliances and haven't had any issues, knock on my wooden head! And ironically, since there is just the two of us now, we do grab a lot of Tim Horton's coffees as there are two with a couple of blocks of where we live, so I am not even using the pot as much as I used to.
I think maybe I just need to spend the big bucks again, but on a coffee maker this time.

Believe it or not, I've never had a coffee maker go out on me. Do you think it could possibly be because I drink about a cup a week? When I've had to replace them it's always been because I was tired of having it on the counter, rarely used, and gave it away. I inevitably decided I needed one, even if it was just for guests.

Of course now we've finally gotten winter weather and I have a toddler so between the cold and perpetual fatigue, a cup of coffee in the morning always sounds good now. icon_smile.gif
