She does great figure work (fondant/gumpaste)and cakes . Check it out: http://www.tourtes.com/?figures
Wonder if she's a CC member?
I love how they have some of the figures move (like the shark's mouth). I am no artist and wish I could do something like this. Considering getting a polymer clay book (aimed at children), showing easy figures to make.....heck, clay, fondant, no difference in the technique. ![]()
Omicake, you're right! I looked her name up and she's got a great gallery. and a couple of how to's in there too. Here's one: http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=allby&uname=Liis&cat=0&pos=5
Momlittr, that clay book is a good idea, especially if you can get your fondant the right consistency. Liis uses Mexican sugarpaste (I know it's mexican something). I wonder if that's a little firmer to work with.
Yep, she's definitely one of ours!! I recognised some of those figures immediately!
Liis has also done a great tutorial on How to make a fondant fairy:

Thank you!
My website needs still a lot of improvements but it is better than not having a website at all.
Also, i wouldn't mind making another tutorial for something that you would like to see. So if you have something in mind, let me know and will try and make it.
I love all the little figurines. She does a great job. Thanks for sharing. I have worked with clay for years and there are some great tutorials on the web. here is a link to some I posted a while ago. I've used a lot of them for cake decorations. You can also do a search for polymer clay tutorials.

sassijen those are some good links. I would imagine that working with fondant is more difficult than clay because it is so much softer.
Liis, I love your work and thank you for the tutorials that you've done! I was wondering if you use a mixture of fondant/gumpaste or another mixture for your figures? I thought I read somewhere that you also use that mexican paste. If so, is that firmer than fondant and how does it taste?

Rezzycakes,
I use fondant and i just add gumtex to it but only for the parts that have to hold or stand.
i bought that mexican modelling paste. i will not buy it again. it was ok to work with for sure it does hold up much better but nothing special. i still have a little left in the freezer ![]()
i use the leftover of it as a gumtex kind of 50/50 with fondant. works great.
as for the taste of it i have to say i thought it tasted like there was some flour in it
kind of a funny taste. sweet but floury in my opinion.
actually it tastes like marcela capo modelling dough ( she had a recepie on her website, it is amazingly easy to work with her moddeling dough, but because it also contains flour the taste is just funny)
Thanks for the info Liis. I have several books that refer to the mexican paste and I was tempted to try it, but I will heed your warning. I don't want anyone to think that all fondant tastes that way. I use satinice and it tastes pretty good so I'll stick to that.
Wonderful website and wonderful work! Thanks for sharing it and I am glad to hear that it is a CC Member!
Isn't CC great!! There is soooo much talent and inspiration here!
