icon_confused.gif Hello everyone........My question is this,,,can Clear Kayro Syrup be added into fondant to make it more "plyable", or will it make it taste yucky and become sticky to use?

I saw this or read something about this somewhere and forgot what the answer was........Can anyone help?

Thanks.......Reason is for flower making, and ribbon bows.......Sometimes my ribbon bows crack and flower petals break......

More likely, a bit of white shortening will be helpful. Homemade fondant or MM fondant, if the result is dry, a bit of shortening can come to the rescue.

If you are already adding shortening, I suspect you are kneading in too much powdered sugar in the beginning. The fresh MMF should not be that dry.

I add the melted mm to the large bowl of powdered sugar (hold back about 1/4 of the ps), then stir with a wooden spoon. Once it is too thick to stir, I dump the whole mess on the counter and use a bench scraper (the mm may be hot) to start the kneading. As soon as it starts to come together, and be cool enough to touch. In knead with my hands. The PS I held back is available to add if it is still too sticky.

As soon as I can get a smooth ball, no really stick, I stop. Wrap it in plastic, and let is sit for a while, even 20 minutes will make a difference. Then on a clean, lightly dusted surface, I knead a bit more, adding just a dusting of PS so it isn't sticky.

If it is "leftover" I store it flattened, double wrapped in plastic. A few seconds inthe microwave and it is good as new.

Hope this helps.

I think corn syrup would be OK. It's an ingredient in both homemade (non-MM) fondant and in marshmallows. You can also add glycerine - just a tsp is all you'd need, though I suspect you don't have it onhand. Just be careful about adding too much crisco if you go that route. I've used it before and was never able to get my bow loops to dry. Had to skip it cuz I ran out of time.
