I wish I could skip this part, the BAKING part! ![]()

I just finished baking 2- 9" x 13" sheet cakes, 2 - 8" x 2" square cakes, and a 12" x 2" square cake. I am making a BIG cake for my church and the setup is the 8 x 2 on top of the 12 x 2 and on the sides the 9 x 13 to total for 100 people. I AM TIRED OF BAKING!
I got into decorating for the DECORATING, but hey, you got to have a cake to decorate to begin with, right? ![]()
Oh, well, I just wanted to get it off my chest. I love the taste of my cakes, but don't really care for the baking.
The part that is almost a therapy to me is the decorating.
Anyone out there feel like me? ![]()
Well, Price unfortunately I do it as a side "thing", not officially a job making hobbie either... ![]()
I agreed to do this cake I mentioned above and I am TIRED!!! To make matters worse, my two little girls are sick so they are requiring extra attention... ![]()
Oh, well, another thing that is good about the people who are well established as bakes, they have those other employees that clean up after them....
Isn't that great!!!???
I love to bake! I was doing that well before the decorating bug got me. Personally, I find the baking to be relaxing and even though I enjoy decorating, I find it to be stressful. I'm with you on having someone to clean up!! That is the part I hate, my kitchen always looks like a cyclone hit it.
I agree with you...I have a take-it-or-leave-it kind of attitude about baking...it's not therapeutic for me to smell stuff baking in the oven...it just makes me hungry. For me, I enjoy the decorating WAY more than the baking, and cooling, and torting, and filling, and crumb coating and final coating.
....and having free help to clean up after me would be nice....especially the greasy tips and bowls after making buttercream icing....
I'm with you, Maria...I don't much like baking. I don't hate it, but I would prefer to do the drive-thru route that Randa suggested!
I do like baking cheesecakes, though, because it's such a great thing to do it right and not have it crack or lose its creaminess due to overbaking.
Decorating is where it's at for me. ![]()
Okay, I guess the baking sometimes gets to me because I make scratch cakes and my oven is not the best (eventhough it is a real good stove) but the oven for some reason doesn't have a good heat circulation and my cakes sometimes sink a bit in the middle.
Baking from scratch is real delicate and I have to be careful not to overbeat. So, I guess, this stresses me out. The people I bake for don't like box cakes so I don't do them very often.
Randa, that is so funny you mentioned the drive thru bakery. I have been telling my friends that I would just bake the cake and make the icing if they would like to decorate their cakes themselves. I have had a few people say they don't have time to bake but want to decorate a cake for their kids. That is what gave me that idea. No takers yet. ![]()
I enjoy the baking part as much as the decorating part! I've just finished with 2 apple pies, I have two pumpkin pies in the oven and 2 pecan pies ready to be baked. Cakes are just part of what I do! The whole dessert thing is fun to me!!

I love the drive thru idea.....I love the idea of having some one else clean up after you. I dont mind the baking all that much just the clean up. MC
I always loved baking, I think I could bake in my sleep, doesn't matter what it is although pies are my least favourite thing to make, mainly because I don't like mucking about rolling them out. Funny, it doesn't bother me to roll out cookie dough though. I like the decorating part too, just not the cleanup. Not when you have 15 icing bags and several tips and couplers and such to wash, haha! I have two large bowls and a smaller one for the Kitchen Aid and the lids, so that is great, I can cover the icing and leave it right in the bowl. I should get extra paddles though, that would save some clean-up time.
Hugs Squirrelly
Baking cakes is what led me to the decorating! I have always loved to bake...anything I could find to bake, I would. I just find the entire process fascinating. The decorating is where I get to be creative...so I guess it's safe to say that I love doing both!
I love baking...it leads to eating!!

I don´t really hate baking, but things that go in the oven and I are not a "running system". I don´t even manage to get a pizza in the way as it should be ...
And as German law prohibits to bake and sell any goods when you are not having your master degree, I´m not too sad that I have to buy my cakes. So I just do the decoration ![]()
I love baking, it has been in the family. All my aunts bake, and if only my mom had an oven i guess she too would have been baking. At first i would bake cakes for tea, call them tea cakes. If at all i had to decorate one it was chocolate glaze icing poured over the cake with some buttercream decorations on it. Decorating cakes came to me as an inspiration from my son and that made me take up a class. I learnt to bake different types of cakes, not just tea cakes and different icing techniques, and since then its has been go go. I just love baking and decorating and even cleaning up the mess.
My 2nd grader ask me to help him with sentences and here are some of them....
word is smooth "Fondant icing is as smooth as the baby's butt".
word is moist "My mom baked a moist carrot cake".
.....hubby has warned him not to ask me for sentences. ha ha ha.
I'm pretty new at this ... I like both.... clean up is not such a big issue .. I try to clean as I go so I'm not overloaded at the end.... I also find that I've had so much fun decorating that cleaning doesn't even bother me.....
I LOVE the baking part! I'm with Squirrely, though, I don't particularly like to do pies much. I'm "pie challenged"--my filing never cooks right in the oven.
The only part of cakes that I don't like is the cleaning up part.
